Product Idea: MMI Boost Gauge/Car Monitoring System

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It'd be nice if a Boost gauge can be displayed in the MMI somehow. The screen is nice and big, but is wasted on just maps or music display. What if a full suite of car logging/monitoring solution were to use it instead? Boost, wheel power distribution, etc

This will most likely require xcarlink to switch the signals around, but I think it can be a cool mod. I'm thinking this can be blended with a car-puter installation too.

I might make this my next project. But even if I manage to get the screen switcheroo stuff going properly, I'm not sure how to pull all the data out of the car.

You could have a mini laptop (netbook) running VAG COM, then feed that to the video screen.

think it should be possible without it, possibly add an addon and feed it into the screen. A more indepth mod would be to actually modify the firmware (hack it).

Nice. If it weren't for the multiple comments confirming the existence of the controller, I would likely have said that it was staged w/ simple inputs rather than a V1 lol

This is one of the few instances where I wish I had gotten a computer engineering degree instead of a computer science one lol

Its all coding inside the instrument cluster and how it handles available data passed over the can network which in case of boost will originate from the ecu.

This is not the first time this idea has been discussed. We've looked at it and will have something in the future. Don't know if we'll get to it for the B8 chassis. We are looking at more than a year of development time.

Nice. That's pretty much what I had in mind. But a video of it running shows that it seems very laggy. Plus, the interface looks like crap. I wonder if it's skinnable.

Easier solution is to relocate mmi to glove box and have a mount for three pods where that would be seems better imo but this is a cool concept

Lol or how about we just go with this concept which reminds me of a concept where you have a laptop built in so it flips out when u start the car and tells you when your nos is ready and when your manifold is in danger and makes your floorboard fly off! The civics really has it all
