    4" Exhaust for your B5 S4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone interested in a 4" exhaust for your B5 S4? I have been talking to a couple shops down here in Santa Cruz (well, Watsonville), and it is about $500-$650 for a 4" exhaust (including Vibrant 4" in, dual 3" out) muffler (depending on the y-pipe situation). The more people interested, the cheaper it is. This is with aluminized mild steel (not stainless steel). For SS, it would be about $250 more. The Vibrant muffler is stainless steel, so the weld between the mild and stainless needs to be coated for rust (exhaust/manifold paint).

3.5" is about the same price if 4" is too big for you. Can be made to mate up to piggie pipes, SSAC, 3" downpipes, or whatever you got. If we can get 3 cars, the price will drop by about $100 and be about $550. I've seen work done by both the shops I've spoken too, and it is legit.

I am going to do it regardless, but would love to save some money if anyone else is interested.

3"?!? Dude, that is what I run right now! You of all people should be running 4". You could always throw either an extra muffler or a resonator in there. And if you run cats, it won't be loud at all. Dude Im selling my 3" exhaust with Magnaflow muffler. Just get some different tips on it and it would like look anything you want. I think it sounds tits. I paid $300+ for it.

Lincoln St. and spacing on the other name right now. Is A&R where I got my straight pipes? Anyways, sell those rims so you can get in on this!. I bet you could buy just the tubing welded up and ready for the muffler, and hold off on the muffler for now. The material has to be custom ordered, and the more of it that can be ordered, the cheaper the job gets. All of us could be making more power with a 4" setup. I personally like the blacked out look and I think I wouldn't run any tips at all, but you could easily just pull the muffler a tiny bit back and run whatever tips you want. They make a 3.5" in, 3.5" single out, and 4" in, 4" out and 4" in, dual 3" out.

PS. Wonder how much JHM would do it for?

Ya exhaust works is where i have gone in the past and i think where you got your straight pipes welded in..

i havent gotten any interest in either of the wheel sets i'm selling.. so until those are sold i wont really have any money.

i dunno, email Jay and see how much he would charge.

Gilbert, I'll find u some youtube clips. There aren't many, but this is what JHM uses, and some of the strongest dynoing K04 cars out there are running 4" exhaust. Needless to say, without the addition of another muffler or resonators, its going to be pretty loud. You can only make a 4" exhaust so quiet. Your downpipes and whether you have cats or straight pipes will make a big difference.

Nah I don't like dumps; I don't think they sound very good to be honest. If I see police, I'll just lay off the throttle.

I am going to get a realistic accurate estimate on Tuesday, I will post what I find out then.

    Re: 4" Exhaust for your B5 S4?

I know his car did, not sure if it did in those videos, but from the sound of it, I'd say yes! Figure it is going to be loud, but largely dependent on if you run cats, resonators, extra muffler, and what downpipes you have. 3" downpipes, no resonators or cats, and one muffler, and it is going to be LOUD. Probably a bit rough too. Add in some resonators to smooth things out and have it a bit less raspy/raw. Add another muffler to cut down on drone and further smooth things out. Add in some high flow 3" cats and you'd have one seriously high flowing setup that would sound incredible and not too loud at all; except under WOT. However, thats going to add some premium to the cost of the system. I am honestly pretty sure i can get the whole thing done (including the cost of a self supplied Vibrant muffler) for under $500 if I can work some magic.

Me? Im going dual 3" from my SSAC midpipes to 4" and the Vibrant 4" in, dual 3.5" out and I think I might not run any tips at all and go sleeper. No resonators, no cats, 1 muffler. Maybe over winter break, 3" downpipes to match the dual 3" from the midpipes. I want that thing to pop, gurgle, bang, and roar. SSAC and the 3" exhaust is not loud enough, but no muffler doesn't sound good to me.

    My future setup will be:

3" DPs w/high flow cats + 4" catback, one vibrant resonator, one vibrant muffler (4" inlet/outlet)

    Re: 4" Exhaust for your B5 S4?

So, Brian and I went down to Watsonville and confirmed prices today with the shop. It is a go!!! I should have the setup done next week sometime. Price will be ~$550 for dual 3" into single 4", with a Vibrant 4" in, dual 3" out muffler. That is with sourcing the muffler yourself, so $425 without the muffler for all the materials and work. The Vibrant is about $125 online. I will be ordering mine today or tomorrow. Please let me know if anyone else would like to order one, and we can cut down on shipping costs. These flex pipes are very nice, interlocking, flow better then normal, and last a lot longer. Did some research and they look real legit, they are made by Vibrant as well.

This is what I am getting: 2.5" flex pipes welded to the SSAC, then 2.5" to 3" reducer to dual 3" midpipes back to a 4" single, and a single Vibrant 4" in, 3.5" out muffler, no fancy tips. For all of this, it is $675. If you do not want flex pipes welded in, then $550.

$675 for downpipes back and everything else, is an absolute steal; especially compared to what most places are asking. $550 without flex pipes if you already have them and just want 3" from the midpipes back instead of from the downpipes back, or if you don't care about flex pipes, or if you have piggie pipes or aftermarket downpipes already. Resonators or single resonator would obviously add to the cost. Cat's are an option, but you would need to supply them yourself for the best deal.

Real excited to get this done.

    Re: 4" Exhaust for your B5 S4?

Muffler will be here Friday (spaced out on ordering it, whoops), so the car goes into the shop on Monday morning since it might be there for a couple days. Muffler was $135 shipped 3 day air from THmotorsports.com (good guys, I bugged them for about 30 minutes with questions, and they also have the best pricing on Carbotech pads I've found). The exhaust work is $550 for 2.5" flex pipes for the SSAC downpipes, which then immediately enlarge to 3" all the way back to the y pipe, into 4" all the way back. $550 is a steal, considering the bends, the y pipe, and the Vibrant interlocking flex pipes.

THmotorsport has the cheapest Vibrant mufflers I've found, and free 3 day air shipping.

I am gonna run some 3.5" tips I decided. They will fit together real nice in the opening and fill in that gap between the two 3" exits.

The real question is... what will happen to the ground clearance? I plan on raising my suspension up a bit anyways, but I may have to get a parking permit to park on the street cause im scraping already in and out of my driveway.

Pics... Video is almost done processing. I'll get a better one soon, ran out of tape. The video really doesnt do it justice. And at 5200rpm, it gets this nasty nasty snarl.
