Licence Plate Light - Bulb Out Warning

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my car beeped at me today and said my licence plate light was out. I drove for about a mile and it went out. When I parked, I checked and they are both on. I turned off the car and restarted it, and it still says the bulb is out... Any idea what to do? Is there a way to reset the message?

    thanks

Sorry to bump an old thread, but what does he mean "automatic"? I had some cheap LEDs that worked but threw errors, beeped while driving, etc, but then I ordered some VW/Audi specific error-free LEDs (Blesks) and installed them today. They work great, but that warning light is still on the dash....It does not beep while driving anymore however. I drove 20KM today it still didn't clear it.....Will I have to disconnect my battery or clear the warning with Vag-Com? I don't like seeing that icon on my DIS

Note - for $15 off ebay, they work great....only thing is they run hot to the touch, even after just turning them on for 30 seconds...

Automatic meaning you don't need to reset anything. If the problem is fixed, the computer automatically detects it and turns off the messages. LED's draw less power compared to the regular bulbs so the computer thinks the bulb is out, which is why you are getting the message.
When you had your old bulbs in and the message was going on and off, the bulb was probably not seated properly or it was some cheap stuff that had a mind of its own.

To fix the bulb out you need to wire up a resistor in there. Take a look here: CLICKY and see which wires to use for the resistor.
From that thread this is the resistor he used (I did aswell): CLICKY, although I'm sure you can use others.

I did a cleaner install than that quick one. Just make sure the wires are on tightly and not loose. Loose wire = loose connection = number plate message blinking while driving.

    Hope that helps.

Agreed, this seems like the only way to have LEDs for our LP without errors. I definitely told him this, but he said he was going to keep looking for another method.
