difference between k03 k04 appearance?

is there anyway to tell the difference between a k03 and k04 by looking at it? also what the difference between a "k" stamp and a "kkk" stamped turbo?

The K04 will have a placard riveted on that says K04-15 among other things.

It is not easy to tell just with a casual look over. The compressor housing is a little bigger on the K-04 compared to the K-03. The K-04 will have "5304" cast into the compressor housing, with the "04" part of the number meaning K-04. The difference between the two turbos is the K-04 has a bigger compressor impeller.

Are you trying to determine the type of turbo or the authenticity? Or both?

The K03 unit will have a noticeably smaller air inlet opening, but it actually shares the housing with the K04. They're just machined differently.
