    Re: driving with surfboards

I dont have an avant but i use my rack to carry my board. I just use some good straps.

Before i had good straps i had to use rope ... bad idea

    Re: driving with surfboards

If I'm just cruising to the beach I throw it on the rack.

If I'm on the freeway the board goes in the car. Tried to roll with it up top doin 80 and it started flopping around it was strapped down VERY tight and still kept movin around.

My pads keep rolling around on the bars too which makes my board move along with it..

yeaa its a old ass carbon customs board. I got it at a yard sale for 5 dollars and turned it into art and hung it on a wall in the appartment. I currently have a 6'2 wade thruster but i no longer live near the beach so its hopefully gonna get sold too.

    classic.

i live three blocks from the beach - so normally no big deal.

Been thinking about getting racks, but the whole package for surf and snow gets a little pricey.

    Thanks to all!

I always just throw them in the car. I don't live far from the beach and if it's no good by my house I usually hop on the freeway. I have thought about buying racks for the Avant, but the only reason I would use them is if I were to want to go longboard. I don't longboard much so never pulled the trigger on racks.

Also, not having racks is a good excuse for me to not caravan my friends and their boards around.

I've realized since this pic that it's better to have the fin at the front. I've been on the freeway doing 80+ with no problems.

When I had my Volvo V70 I could put my longboard inside...that was convenient for heading out right after work. Leaving my board on top all day while I work makes me nervous.

    Hi all

Can anyone tell me how well the a3 fits surfboards inside? or even a picture?

I am pretty keen to get one but it really depends if I can fit 6 foot short boards in the A3 with either of the split rear seats down. Ideally would like to fit 3 people with 3 boards in it?

    Cheers
    Joel

    super necro!

i don't have an A3, but I am imagining it might be kind of tight getting three in with one of the back seats up.

might want to think about a rack for it.

For real, bunch of barneys up in here!! I usually just toss them in the back unless I'm rolling with a crew to hit up some spot or if I'm bringing a longboard for chicks/kooks to ride. I tried the truck thing for a while and if only used as a surf truck it was sick but sucked to do anything else, had to go back to the avant.

My friend has a Hyundai getz 2 door and we can fit 3 boards 3 people, tight but it works.

I imagine A3 has to have more room but it really depends on the angels and how the baords fit in. Roof racks are pretty annoying you have to use board bags, straps highway driving sucks if you stop off at shops or to get food you have to take them off the roof or be paranoid they will get stolen.

If someone has a A3 and a surfboard I would really appreciate if you could post a pic with the board inside.

Fins forward and proper straps on the roof are the way to go!
And when the paddleboards go up there I always use these:
