How much oil is left when the low oil light comes on?

I searched around and could only find threads about how much oil people were adding (seems like 1-2qts over 5k miles). If anyone knows how much oil remains in the car (out of the 5 qt. capacity) when the low oil light first comes on, I would appreciate it.

On a side note, it's scary seeing how many threads there are about oil consumption.

Not sure about the quantity l that's left, but I would imagine that it's pretty low. I blew and engine in about 10 miles from the time the light came on.

Oil light is not something you want to see. Check your oil levels frequently...especially if you have to add oil from time to time. If you're losing more than a quart every thousand miles, take it to the dealer and complain.

The oil light has been coming on right towards 4500 miles after the oil change...if I knew how much oil is left when the light comes on, it would help me figure out how much oil its burning per 1k miles. My fear is that it triggers when there's .5 qt left (meaning its burning 1qt/1k miles).

I'd guess it has somewhere between 1 or 2 quarts left in the motor when the light comes on. I always have 1 quart of Mobil 1 in the trunk just in case.

i too had the min oil on my dash and filled up 1 qt of oil, checked the stick n it was marked at max

4 qts if you catch it when the light goes on. If we have a 5 qt capacity and I'm religiously adding 1 qt every 2500-3000 miles then you do the math!

Dealt with this on a few occasions, and it took a full quart to bring me back up to the max level.

My advice - Listen to your car. If it asks for more oil, put some more in it.

I normally get that light around 6000 km after oil change... so that's around 3900 miles...

When the light comes on, and your oil level is in the 'C' range, it takes 1 quart to bring it back to MAX level, as per the manual.

i'd agree with with everyone else that said keep a quart in your trunk...
i had mine come on the other day so i bought 2 quarts poured one in and kept the other just in case
(i had on oil change scheduled later that week)

Our low oil light is not the low oil pressure like other more basic cars have.

Low oil pressure means: stop the car right now and put some oil!!
Low oil light you do not need to worry much but still make sure to put oil as soon as possible.

I put one qt of oil right after the low oil light came up and oil stick marked as max.
