Differences between C5 S6 and 4.2 A6?

What are some major differences between the two cars? Is the 4.2 A6 even available as an Avant?

S6 Avant has about 50 more horsepower than 4.2 A6. You can chip 4.2 allroad to get the same power output as an S6 avant.

I don't think you'll get the 40 HP from any chip. You'd need to do something more drastic, like FI or internal work. Chips apparantly don't do a whole lot to the 4.2. You can do a lot more to the 2.7T and make a lot more than 340, but it's gonna cost you.
The S6 only came to the states as an avant. It has (as stated) 40 more HP, different wheels, tighter suspension, and a few more option combos that you can't get on the A6 4.2. (I think you can get all the same options, jut not together) The suspension might just be to accomodate the increased weight, but I'm not sure. I have an A6 2.7T S-line, and my wagon handles corners a lot better.

Actually with just exhaust, ecu tune and tcu tune it is possible to go from running in the 15s(stock) to low 14s without any other mods. Couple that with a lightweight crank pulley, lightweight battery and lighter wheels it is possible to break into the high 13s.

I don't know about you but dropping over a second in the quarter mile is a little more then 40 hp.

allroad 4.2 is the B6 S4 chain driven 4.2. It can be chipped to match that power.

S6 has many differences...exhaust, intake, cams, gearing, etc.

C5 S6 has different cam profiles, different MAF, different exhaust manifolds, different down pipes, a different intake manifold and slightly higher compression yielding 40+ horsepower of the A6 4.2. The S engine also has an extra idler on the timing belt, an extra 500 rpm in the rev limit, and different tuning. It's basically a detuned S8 engine.

The A6 4.2 was available in Avant format but just not in the USA,the S6 was also available in a sedan, but not again not in the USA.

360hp The difference in the A8 are the cams, exhaust, and tune.

Vast has done a few s8 to a6 engine/trans swaps with great results. But honestly you could save the money and upgrade the exhaust, ecu, tcu and it will be pretty close. Im also going to be throwing in an s8 intake manifold and s8 cams after i complete my 6 speed swap.

What car run's 15's stock? A 3.0. I remember the old road tests on the 4.2 and they were a mid 14 car.

a stock 4.2 runs 15.3, i know i did it myself... after exhaust, i got it as low as 14.8

I will have a price list after we get a few things together for my car. Brand new it will be expensive for sure, if you can find them from a recycle yard and save a ton.

Like I said I do not have a lot of info on everything for the 4.2 a6 yet but we are getting information together to provide you guys.

Nope the differences are the cams, downpipes and software just about everything else is the same.

Dan the intake won't work unless you have the corresponding ECM, or able to change the software, the A6 and S6/S8 intakes are different in design and have different RPM engagement points I've run both an A6 intake on S6 ecm and S6 intake on A6 ecm and the combo's didn't behave well.

Bumping this thread because I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with doing a port and polish with the IM and TB. I know VAST offers it.

G Men 08 weren't you going to do your IM while you had the motor out? If so, how did it turn out?

Dan@JHM have you considered P&P? IS there anything to be gained?

port and polishing the manifold wont really do that much, the power gains are gonna be in the heads. to get the most out of a p&p you need to match the runners of the head and intake to your gasket. don't get me wrong you can gain a few horses from just doing the IM but nothing thats gonna straighten your curlies.
