    Recommended Strobe Accessories?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I picked up and wireless flash last summer and have barely been putting it to use... Maybe a dozen shoots with it in more than a year. Mostly because i dont much about using it, but partially i think because it isnt much good without methods of reflecting the light and such.

What do you all use? I dont shoot in a studio, obviously considering i hardly use my wireless. So I've been thinking flash mounted bouncers and mini softbox type setups. What might be some good options? Also snoots?

Recommend some kind of trigger other than the setup it uses already? Its and Olympus fl-36r. I know she wont fire unless its in the line of the on body flash, which can be an inconvenience...

    Thanks for the help!!!

    Re: Recommended Strobe Accessories?

I just picked this little kit up today... However, it's a continuous output setup.

I've never had or tried a lighting setup like that before, but I have a few people that are paying me to take some shots for them so I figured this should help me out with lighting. I also have a Nikon SB-600 flash that has worked pretty well for me, but like you, I haven't used it all that much.

    what's your budget..?
I use elinchrom studio flash but, it is relatively expensive. I try to use it all the time because I love lighting.
I can give you some recommendations if you give me a ballpark idea of what you want to spend.
You can use reflectors to bounce light back but, you will need a studio stand. If you want to use an umbrella there is a bracket which hold the umbrella and the flash the flash that you already have. My understanding is that your flash is not 100% wireless.

Just read the B&H catalog on your FL-36R that it is 100% wireless. You need to look in the camera menu to set it up.

    Re: Recommended Strobe Accessories?

The first link you posted richard is right around my budget. its tough to have a budget when you dont know what youre shopping for. definitely dont have too much more than that. but yes the flash is totally wireless, it just has to be in sight of the pop up flash to fire.

    Westcott Apollo Speedlight Set

ok, I think you will be better off with the Westcott Apollo Speedlight Set. Reasons being, the flash "light" goes back into the softbox and then comes out so you will get a much more even light. The first one I showed you, the flash just comes straight out - not so even which means hot spots. The Westcott one does not come with a stand however but, you can check craigslist - i've seen some for about $10 - $20. Or, $40 for an 8' stand at B&H. The next thing to think about is the size of the softbox. What are you going to be shooting. The Westcott is 28" square. I like it because you can take the front baffle out for a harder light. Check out the reviews.

^^ they seem to have some kits that cover all the bases. too bad they dont have any retailers within like 100 miles of me. but thanks for the links, I'll definitely be expanding my kit soon and getting some fresh shots coming in.
