    Fidelity Warranty

Well. I finally broke down and bought a Fidelity Warranty for my car.

After reading all of the timing chain & tensioner issues of late, i just couldn't find a reason not to purchase an extended warranty. That one issue could easily pay for the entire warranty.

I went with a 4 yr / 48k gold plus package. 3 grand all said and done. Covers almost everything. The process was painless.

Now i have no worries about beating on the car for the next 4 years.

    Definitely recommend it.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

Glad to hear you got it man. There are quite a few members on here that have Fidelity Warranty and they are quite happy with it. I'm also considering getting it once I find a decent S4.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

Nice, how many miles on your car and where did you buy it from?

I'm looking to step into a used s4 soon and will prolly opt for the warranty. I heard that carchex has a 0% monthly payment plan for theirs...

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

I also took the plunge a few weeks ago with Fidelity. I purchased the 6 yr/60,000 mile coverage for my RS 4. I suppose since the mileage on my car is quite low the price for the Platinum coverage was pretty darn reasonable,$2300. First time I have bought an aftermarket warranty so I am curious to see how it will play out with the known DRC,Carbon and what ever issues present themselves!

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

49k miles on my car. I only plan on keeping it for the next 4 years or so. That will get me to 100k miles covering almost everything.

The peace of mind is worth the cost in my opinion.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

Be very careful, they look for any possible reason to not cover a claim. My aux radiator was leaking slowly, and they denied the claim bc corrosion was listed on the exclusions, and my ALUMINUM RADIATOR was rusting. Aluminum doesnt rust. I filed a claim with the BBB, called their "customer service" a thousand times, and nothing got done. You have no way of fighting anything unless you have a lawyer, and theyre usually more expensive than the repair. I ended up cancelling and losing about 400 bucks total. I was going to send the old radiator to them and prove that it split, but what good would it have done? I was really pissed tho, real scam.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

This is fidelity warranty services not Fidelus.

I have heard terrible things about the US fidelus warranties not covering what they should.

This fidelity warranty services has a great reputation from what i hear.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

Audi0s, are you talking about Fidelity? Carchex? Who? Not that I personally care because I think aftermarket warranties are a waste, but it helps to be clear about who you're referring to in order to avoid misunderstandings.

By the way, and I know this is going to suck to hear, but your warranty company had good reason to deny your claim because they used the term corrosion and not rust (and no, the terms technically aren't interchangeable). It's a good thing you chose not to pursue legal action because you would've lost.

Corrosion is a broad term, and rust is simply one form of corrosion. In other words, Aluminum doesn't rust but it can corrode. Unprotected aluminum forms Aluminum Oxide, and it's nothing like Iron Oxide or what we know as plain ol' rust, which happens only to ferric metals. Al2O3 is that hard white crusty shit that you see forming on chain link fences and cheap lawn chairs.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

How do you figure aftermarket warranties are a waste?

I would agree with you if we were talking about a toyota or honda where parts are cheap, the work is easy to DIY and the cars never have major issues.

But the S4 is not in that category. Parts are rediculously expensive, repairs can be very difficult to DIY without the proper resources...and to be honest, these cars have known issues with the timing chain / tensioners.

A new motor for an S4 is 14-15 thousand. A timing chaing and tensioner service is 2-4 thousand at a minimum depending on what needs to be replaced. If something is seriously damaged as a result of the timing chain / tensioner failure, then you could be looking at very expensive repairs.

To be honest, i think its crazy to be driving a higher mileage S4 WITHOUT a warranty. It's cheap insurance.

Honestly, how many people have had to have them replaced? I've only heard of a handful of B6/B7 S4s over the last few years needing this done.

    Re: Fidelity Warranty

So a quick search for timing chain or tensioners. You will be amazed how many cases there are.

Here's just the first pages of search results from this forum only.

Also think about the average mileage of cars around here.. they havent been around for many years to gain high miles (expect for the rare few) and need this repair yet. Give it another year and see...
