How do you replace the side mirror glass?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
You can replace it right? If so how does it come out/off? And where can I find replacements?

Mine are messed up. The drivers side on it is blue but its too small or something because behind it you can see where the other broken one was. Same on the other side but its not even blue. Someone just like glued new ones on other the old broken ones I think.

    Thanks in advance.

they probably glued glasses from pepboyz :)

removing it is really easy, just stck a screwdriver behind it and pop it out. For replacements if you want oem then find some used one from someone that is parting out their car because new they are over 100 each

ON most cars when the mirror break you have to clean off the old mirror by scraping it off (it's glued), some people who are too lazy to do this just stick the new one on top. I understand why, its fucking long and annoying taking the old glass off, but it still HAS to be done. Not sure on our cars though, especially heated power mirrors.

It's only easy if you are replacing the plastic piece with it, replacing just mirror (glass) is a fucking pain on most cars. It's usually a piece by piece process. But like I said earlier, on most cars, Ive never messed with the mirrors on my car.

well you might as well replace the plastic holder too.. is way easier than scraping the glass and then finding a glass that fits properly.. plus if you have heated mirrors you would have to replave the glass and plastic

hit up ecs tuning... they have them and are like 55 bux a side. Replacement is a 2 minute job and more than a minute of that is removing the mirror from the packaging making sure not to drop it on the ground.

Re: How do you replace the side mirror glass?

I have the auto-dimming mirror glass (read: $$) and this is how I removed mine:

    - Using the mirror control, adjust the mirror about level (up and down) and all the way to the inside of the car (left to right). This will leave the outside edge of the mirror almost sticking out of the housing.
    - Put a few fingers of each hand behind the outside of the glass, and put both thumbs on the center of the glass.
    - Gently and carefully pull the outside of the mirror glass. Pushing slightly with your thumbs will help because the mirror will flex a bit. If the mirror is already broken or cracked, flex away. If you are trying to salvage the mirror, be more careful.
    - It does take a bit of force to unclip the mirror glass and you may think it will break or shatter. It will not, and yes, you are doing it right. Have confidence and will just unclip.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you break, crack, or otherwise harm your $300 heated, auto-dimming, and/or euro-spec 'ashperical' mirror glass. Just trying to give some tips.

Re: How do you replace the side mirror glass?

    Alright thanks for the tips.
How do I know if mine are auto-dimming and heated? and or euro-spec? Probably a stupid question but I honestly don't know if they are any of those or not haha.
    Thanks in advance again.

Re: How do you replace the side mirror glass?

Regular heated mirror glass, blue tint is default:

    Heated Auto-dimming (anti-dazzle) glass($$$):

Heated Euro Aspherical (blind spot) mirrors, notice vertical line:

There is also, the fabled Heated, Auto-dimming, aspherical (blind-spot) mirrors. But if you are asking about those you need some serious cash to burn on some fancy-pants mirror glass.

ECS has all the mirrors shown above:

Re: How do you replace the side mirror glass?

Alright thanks, so are all mirrors heated then?

I'm not sure what mine has since the drivers side is blue, but looks too small. And the passenger side is not blue, but also looks too small. I can get pictures up if that will help.

Re: How do you replace the side mirror glass?

AFAIK, all A4 mirrors are heated. I'm thinking maybe on the earlier cars the blue tint was an upgrade/V6 only item. Not sure on that, though. Either way, if you don't have Auto-dim you can't add it just by getting mirror glass. There is extra wiring and you must have the auto-dimming center rear-view mirror to go with it (it is the "controller").

Indeed, they aren't too pricey but you do need to pay attention to your VIN when ordering. If you need help, shoot me your VIN and I'll be sure you get the right parts:

    Left Side Mirrors

    Right Side Mirrors
