    rough idle in park only

I have an 04 1.8t quattro tip with tt injectors, 1+ software, hitachi bolt down coils, and f5dp0r plugs. Yesterday my car started stuttering in idle and then went to 1500rpms to compensate. I also got a cel. I haven't had time to pull the code yet, but it idles fine when its in gear and drives fine. The only thing I can think of is I just put gas in it but I did put in 93. Any ideas? Oh I have a Fmic also.

    Try cleaning the throttle body.

Re: rough idle in park only

Mine bounces around at idle (park and neutral only) sometimes and I've been informed that it's more than likely the MAF due to the cold air intake.

    Just another possible culprit.

Re: rough idle in park only

You can try unplugging your MAF and seeing how that affects your idle.

But by your symptons, vac leak sounds like the most likely culprit.

Re: rough idle in park only

ok so i made it to advance auto and just used the obd2 scanner for codes...i got cylinder 2 misfire, multiple cylinder misfire, system too lean, and high idle rpm

funny thing is the car still runs fine when its in gear and it only shudders in park...

    any ideas?

im at 62,000 miles if that helps...and i doubt its the maf because it runs fine when not in park...the other thing i know i need to do though is clean my air filter (k&n) cuz i just realized its been about 8 months since ive touched it.

could this be my valve cover gasket going and oil getting to the coils/plugs? i thought of that but it still doesnt make sense that its only affected in park

Re: rough idle in park only

cylinder 2 is most likely a coil pack on its way and small vacuum leak for the idle problem or it could be just plain cp #2.

Pull a coil pack up, if you've got oil on the end of the pack you've got a bad valve cover gasket. Or the obvious leaks on the side of your head.

I'm betting small vacuum leak though. Rare for an 04 but that's my bet.

my guess is a vacuum leak.

That's 4 people now that are thinking vac leak...maybe you should do a leak test.

thanks for the info guys...now i just have to drive my girlfriends neon for the next 4 days until i can pull the front bumper off and check everything...with pink things hanging from the mirror and all

i'm thinking that because it was hot summer when i put in my FMIC the aluminum piping was expanded...and now it has contracted in the cold weather which just arrived and that may be the cause of my problem

    EDIT:

oh I forgot to mention i do have a boost gauge...the vacuum was a little lower than it should have been (about -16), but i figured that was because it was idling at 1500 instead of 800...ill have to drop it down in drive so its at 800 and see where it goes and give it a good run and see if im not boosting what it should be
