Air filter leading to check engine light?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Took my 06 3.2 to the dealership today & they're saying my Spectre air filter is the reason for my check engine light being...and they can't clear the light without installing the stock filter back on.

    Anyone hear of this before?

not unless it being on there is causing a vacuum leak. Take it to autozone or another parts store they can clear it

So audi could clear it but they won't because it's a VAG part?

If the filter is the oiled type it's possible that your MAF got filter oil on it and that caused it.

Re: Air filter leading to check engine light?

My CEL went on immediately after the drop in as well. I figured the non-clogged filter may have scared the ECU a bit. Who knows. I just disconnected the battery for ten minutes and then re-connected and fired the car up. No CEL, meaning no recurring problem.

Haven't had issues. I used a AFE dry filter btw.

Would be nice to know exactly what code was thrown.

Just left the dealership. According to them, metal air filters do nothing but harm the engine & the factory "clean air" filter is best for the car. He kinda has to say that doesn't he?

Two questions. Firstly, at what mileage did you change your filter? Secondly, any difference noticeable from the AFE Dry?

    Thanks!

The codes pulled by the Audi guys were P0068, P0571 and P307A.

"airflow in intake system too low."

Hmm that's weird. I have a K&N air filter and don't have any issues at all. I'm gonna need to take it out soon and clean it though, so we'll see what happens.

22k or so. Some sound at higher rpm, but no performance gain. I went with the AFE because you clean it by smacking it against your hand.

The easy clean feature is certainly a plus. Any difference in throttle response?

Maybe a small amount, but nothing I could noticeably feel. It was more a mod because I knew the stockie was dirty and this was going to be last one I'd have to buy because it was easy to clean and re-use. Our intakes are pretty decent from factory and don't benefit much from drop-ins.
