    Re: fuel filter making noise

Mine was doing the same thing three weeks ago. Last year dealership chaged the fuel pump, however did not bother to change the filter. So the thing starter making gargling and whistling sounds. I changed it and took care of the problem. Hope that this helps and good luck.

Your filter is clogged and you need to change it. Here's the DIY
If you replace it and it still noisy, likely your pump needs replacing too.

HOWEVER, before you go do all that check TO see if your car falls under a current fuel system delivery recall issued by Audi. Its def. there for MY03, not sure about MY02.

change your fuel filter now . . . or change your fuel filter and fuel pump later . . .

Clogged fuel filters make fuel pumps work harder and decrease their lifespan. My filter was whinning/humming/buzzing so I changed it out and the noise stopped. Every 40k miles or so, it's a good idea.

Installing the filter is very easy, you don't have to jack the car at all. Just make sure you place the lines in the correct positions, ie. take one off and place it on the new filter as you go. This is a common problem people have run into.
