2010 S5 or 2010 S4

Hey guys, this is my first post here. Im looking to get into either a new S4 or S5 in the next month or so. I have a S4 on order and is set to arrive end of November. The dealer also has a S5 which is coming in in the next two weeks.
Im looking for some pros and cons of each car, and what you would do in my position!
The S5 is 16k(CAD) more than the S4, however this is not the end of the world.

I guess that you have to make up your mind what you want to use the car for. The S5 is my daily driver and I love it. Handles well, comfortable, looks great. It wouldn't be so great if I were using it for the family regularly though...we have another car for that purpose.

The V8 sucks up gas really quickly, but that's ok if you're aware of that beforehand.
The V6 has similar performance, and is more mileage friendly.

Can't make up your mind for you either way. Some people would love to be in your position.

2 or 4 is a non issue, I am single and am no where near starting a family, 4 would be used exclusively to drive my friends around

S4 is the choice of your brain. More practical, more fuel efficient, less $$$
S5 is the choice of your heart. More appealing, more exclusive, more $$$.

Only you can answer which one is more important to you.

haha i had the same dilemma. went with s5 and LOVE IT.

Sounds like you want a V8, optioned-out, S5 to me.

The only other thing to consider would be that the supercharged V6 is likely to have more "moddability"...if you happen to be into that kind of thing.

The S5 is fine in the snow as long as you have proper winter tires. My car isn't lowered at all, and clearance isn't an issue.

BTW, if you're single with no dependants, and only hauling around friends...I'd say go for the S5.

Iv got to be honest, after ordering the S4 i started looking at alternatives (335xi (gross), cayennes, 350 4matic, g37x) and realized that the S4 was by far the best option. I just wasn't 100% sold on it tho. I have to decide by friday, I have to say that i am leaning S5 at this point :D

A good point...you'll see a lot of A4s on the road. I rarely see A/S5s.

Just to throw added fuel to the debate...I'm holding out myself for the S5 because its 'supposed' to get the supercharged v6 in the next model year!

i see no reason to get the S4 if money and passengers are not issues.
it can get annoying letting the back seat passenger in and out of your car but its a fair tradeoff for a sexier car.

id get an s4 if i was in this situation. the v6t engine is going to be quite capable, and if i was going new, id make sure i had that one. just a chip puts it will over 400hp. s4 gets my vote

If you hate your friends, they will concur when you make them sit in the back of the S5 unless they are quire short. I am only 5-11 and really like the S5 from an engineering point of view but I adjusted the front seat for me, then clambered into the back (yes, clambered because it's a PITA) and discovered me head not just near the roof, as in hair touching, but scrubbing. So, I thought, hmm, must not be sitting optimally, got my ass in snug, slouched. leaned back, then had to lean toward the nice center armrest. If you asked me and my gf out to dinner with a "we'll be by around 7 to pick you up..." the reply would be "ah, we'll meet you there.." If you asked us to join you for a ski weekend and we could ride with you, I'd wonder why you want us to be stiff and f'd up before we even hit the slopes.

My small S4 avant rear seat space is way more comfortable!

With that said, the S5 should be a "2nd car" or a bachelors car for just one friend.

The S5 in it's quest for design styling, got it's roof line smashed which looks cool but sucks inside.

Just to echo a point made in another thread, in the real world, the S4 doesn't get noticeably better gas mileage than the S5. With normal enthusiast use (semi-spirited but not driving like a bastard) they will both hover around 17-20 mpg.

get the S5. its only a matter of a few years before they change the engine, this is going to happen to all the cars for better greenhouse and co2 stuff, cant remember where i read it, but seams the V10 rs6 will go to a 8 ect.

There is a substantial wait for S5's, although not as long as S4's. I grabbed one they had coming in that was exactly as I would have ordered except it has the carbonfiber trim, I look at it as paying an extra 500 for the rush delivery :p

Thanks, I am pretty stoked for it to get here, especially because it snowed again today.
Im in Calgary, and the demand for S4's is substantially higher than the S5, but there are never any just sitting around on the lot for more than a week or so.
The car is Phantom Black on Black w/ B&O, Carbon, Nav ect, Sport diff with ADS and a auto gear box (daily driver). I don't think Im missing anything, but every box was ticked

S4 is slightly bigger in almost all exterior & interior dimensions.
