Stock A3 vs A4 comparison?

I'm not asking which is faster because of dumb bragging rights or anything, I'm just asking for a comparison because I recently got an A3 loaner while my A4 is getting serviced and this thing feels sluggish compared to mine.

I have a CVT and this is a DSG and I've heard nothing but good about DSG and bad about CVT, so I was thinking either the loaner is beat to shit, the CVT is faster at lower RPM, or I'm chipped... I plan on going APR later this week so being chipped is a concern for me.

I've looked up many threads about figuring out if your car is chipped or not and I'm sure I don't have APR (reset does nothing), but I don't know about REVO or GIAC (haven't found how you check that). Don't both GIAC and REVO come with a controller of some sort? Also how should the A3 and A4 compare with one another, especially in the lower end?

No way to tell if you have REVO or not, without going to a REVO dealer. Neither one comes with a control module unless you buy one for an extra like 400 bucks.

Depends on if the A3 is quattro or not on how much it will win by, but an A3 will beat an A4 stock for stock all day.

Just a little correction... The Revo Select Plus switch is only about $150. Not sure about GIAC though.

The A4 CVT has the ability to instantly hold any rpm for peak torque/acceleration. The A3 DSG still has to rev through the powerband like a normal transmission. It shifts quickly but still has to rev and shift, whereas the CVT doesn't have too.

The main difference you are feeling it the transmission. (and possibly the fact that its a beaten loaner)

*Most people have A4 quattros, so when they compare an A4 quattro to a A3 fwd the A3 does feel a lot quicker.

I have an A4 CVT (fwd) while my brother has an A3 DSG and his car is faster stock for stock. I drive his car sometimes and notice the difference right away.

I had an A3 loaner a while ago, and it also felt sluggish compared to my stock A4 Avant Quattro. I just put it down to it being a loaner vehicle and beat on regularly, but was surprised at the time just how slow it felt compared to my Avant..

Just to clarify both A3 and A4 are front track 2.0Ts.

So there really is no way to tell if you have REVO or GIAC, aside from hitting them up with your VIN maybe?

Stock A3 is faster, thats because they're lighter. Still, the A3 Quattro uses a Haldex system and not a Torsen system, so if its any compensation you could say our cars are better in the winter

Well I have a front track and don't care about better driving in snow, but aren't both systems biased, neither one providing 50/50 and both being majority front track anyways?

My friend has a GTI DSG( bascially same as an A3) and he is revo stage 2 and he took a B7 S4 from a roll


And the loaner A3 was prob beaten badly because out the box they are fast

This thread is fun. I just sold my 06 GTI DSG that I owned for 2 years. It was an APR STG 2 and would smoke my current 06 APR STG 2 A4. I like the look and luxury better in the A4, but the GTI wins in acceleration and performance (dry of course) in every way. Thus, an A3 should win stock vs stock and also stage 2 versus stage 2 of whatever chip vendor you choose.
