and if you wanna talk higher class, put the SHO next to the S6

Price-wise, you can buy 2x Fords for one S6.

I think the point of the commercial is that for the same money you get SHO vs A6, in which case BTW, SHO would rip apart...

You mean Ford SHO starts at $38k (I doubt a regular Taurus is in that range). And that is the MSRP, I assume, and I also assume you did not pay an MSRP on your A4.

As for the size, it would be like saying a Mini and A4 are the same size -- Fort is MUCH bigger than the A4.
Performance-wise, again, you cannot compare the 2.0T with the SHO 365HP engine.

So, for the money, I do believe you get much more out of the SHO.

Now, just by looking into the cockpit, I get completely turned off by pretty much ANY non-European cars...
Reliability-wise, I think Ford has come a loooong way...

lol the taurus starts at USD 25 grand. the SHO is 37... fully loaded @ 43.


The a6 (which i could price in CAD only) was 70 similarly equipped.

so lets say, theoretically, it had better performance, better interior and all the goodies already in for a savings of 5-10 grand... one would have to be stupid to not consider it.

IMO Audi's 4.2 V8 doesn't equal other company flagship V8's, that is probably why audi got picked on here. They need to step it up to atleast a 5.0L and make atleast 380ish to not get picked on. I looked at the A6 before buying the S4, and the A6 flagship just didn't have enough juice and the S6 too much juice. They need to match the BMW and MB V8's.

man...i know it's hard to look past a name, but is the real idiot someone who bases their car on:
1) it's performance, looks, interior quality, etc.

or

2) a badge and letters found at the front / rear of the car. (which leads me to believe that person is more interested in what other people think of their car)

ford doesn't have a great reputation, but things can change (and that's what they say they are doing)... look at Hyundai and their efforts of the last 5 years.

CTS-V is really nice though. too bad they don't have it in AWD

I agree obviously since I own an audi, but Ford has made leaps and bounds in terms of reliability and quality. Just look at their relability ratings in CR. As far as a CTS-V I would love one if they would not break down all the time, look at their reliability...not very good. A car is only good if you can drive it.

I don't know why people here get upset. Companies at the bottom of the market are always comparing the "value" of their cars compared to the companies at the top of the market. It's easy, you always get more car for the money when you buy a cheaper car. You can easily compare 1/4 mile acceleration in an ad, but you can't easily compare interior quality feel, engine smoothness, etc. Those are things you pay for when you buy an up-market car.

Audi does EXACTLY the same thing when they compare the R8 to Ferrari in their ads. No need to get angry.

Its good that Ford is making an effort to improve their name but comparing a top of the line SHO to an A6 is not fair performance wise. Like stated earlier in the theread put a S6 against SHO. Also wtf is up with ford and ripping off rim designs, there is another thread called "let the immitations begin" and i posted pics of how a Ford focus rim is similar to a lambo rim and a taurus rim similar to s4 rim.

I agree this is kind of crazy weight -- but no one would call the A6 a featherweight -- 4123 for the 3.0T Quattro, The 3.2 FWD is 3858...

The Taurus is quite a bit larger -- 9.4" longer, 3.2" wider, and 3.2" taller according to edmunds.

I don't see why people believe Ford is improving. Last I checked, Focus continues being a disposable turd, Fusion has many induction woes, and Ford trucks continue to deteriorate. Their 6.4 twin turbo diesels are discontinued after only being in the market 2.5 years only to be redesigned to a new 6.7 which they didn't allow I'national to touch, meaning Ford is even worse. Their 2 year bi-turbo run is a record low in terms of diesel longetivity. That's because of all their "blue-tec" diesel emission "technology". We'll see how this new "green" engine is gonna be on the streets. I predict Epic Fail.

My next Audi purchase will be a 3.0 C6 Avant, therefore, this ad makes me laugh but annoys at the same time. Like Hyundai seriously thinking its better than the BMW 750il. Something most consumers ignore is how German vehicles are built. Although Ford (and other imitators) may surpass in performance #'s and price, the quality build and finish will never be any where close

I had a 99 SHO. I loved the car. It was a sleeper, no one ever suspected anything. Throw in some upgrades and it was a fun car. However, there were some major drawbacks to it. Lack of a manual trans being the biggest, followed by no low end torque. The new SHO, and Ford's in general, have indeed made massive progress in quality compared to Ford's of old.

This being said, matching the SHO to a non S Audi is more than a little off balance. I am sure, around a track, the A4 will still walk on the SHO, at least in stock form, due to the weight, however, give some reduced weight and better brakes, I would expect a fair competition, possibly putting the SHO ahead.

What I am waiting for is Hennessey's mods. None yet

While I am not IN LOVE with the new SHO, I do like it, quite a bit, it is nice to see that Ford is actually listening to their customers, as well as, giving the car enough power to actually compete nowadays. All they need now is a speed. I will say this, the next SHO is to be based on the Mondeo, should be smaller and lighter and thus more agile.

I didn't buy an Audi for its badge... I bought it because it was the fastest/safest/most reliable/ most fuel efficient/ best looking car(inside/out) in its price range. End of story

For what it's worth, since Ford did the whole "6 verses 8" thing one of the independent magazines did a test and the BMW 550i still womped the SHO. I can't remember the site or link off hand, but I'm sure it can be found.

So Ford just picked the nicest midsized german sedan that the SHO is faster than, and used that in their ads.
