Will 235/40/17 tires work on stock rims?

I ran the B7 twin 5 spoke wheels with the 235/45 17 Conti tires on my B5 A4 with no problems. Hope that helps.

that link will help a ton with tire sizing.... stock tires for my a6 with 17" rims was 235/45/r17 i think 235/40 the hieght of the tire itself will be smaller so compared to whatever your stock size was your speedo might be off a bit, check the link out it will help

I have 235's on stock 17" avus rims, works fine

I think he's really asking if the height of the tire would be ok. Id imagine it would be fine but a thinner sidewall tire without bigger wheels or lowering the car will increase the gap between your fender and the tire. I used to have a DSM and when I bought the thing it had 215/35/17's but the car wasn't lowered at all and it looked ridiculous.

it will work 100%, I have B5 S4 wheels with 235/40 Toyos as track tires and the clearance is minimal, but its there.

the height difference between 225/45 and 235/40 is minimal, you wouldnt even really notice it.
