    Angry 55,000 Mile Service Costs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just had my 55,000 service. I was shocked at the price. $950 for spark plugs and an oil change.

Are there any reputable independant techs in NW New Jersey?

55k should be a flush of almost all fluids, lube all joints, and wash the car if they are nice.

Yes don't pay that, not even half of it or even anything for that matter. 55k service is a joke. All they do is "check" things. Save your money and replace the plugs and filters yourself. This is the best time and way to learn about your car.

No it's not. First off you should not be following Audi's oil change intervals so that's not a factor here really. It won't hurt to do it though. But the point is that the only thing being replaced are plugs, filters and oil. Everything else is just being checked.

^^^^ Why is it that I don't see Fuel Filter Change on that listing of maintained items?
BTW, When should that filter be changed anyways? or a better question (since it's not listed above); When are ppl changing theirs?

change it around 50, even if you don't hear the noise from the pump. i waited a little too long, and now the pump is on it's way out. i'd also crawl under your car and check which kind of filter you have before getting a new one. even with my vin, the dealership gave me the wrong one.

No mention of anti-freeze fluid or any other lubrication. As I read the manual it just mentioned a bunch of checks. I'll re-read it.

Any Indies in NW NJ? I don't have the tools or really the inclination to do the work myself. I could have done most of the checks though.

I downloaded that document when I got my car, and noticed the same. I had to change mine at about 50K - it was getting a bit blocked up and the fuel pump was working really hard to keep fuel moving in cold weather. If I had known it was happening, I would have changed it earlier.

I tell the dealer to keep my car away from those car washes.

Where were you two days ago? If I keep the car, I'll change the oil more frequently than what is recommended. I'm a firm believer in more frequent oil changes.

    Thanks for the offer!

Some techs don't even bother checking all that stuff out. So basically they robbed you of about $600, easily.

I just looked at the Audi service maitenance spreadsheet and it calls for 2.38 hours of service at 55K so not sure how the dealer wants 900.00 for your service. The big service at 75K is 4.5 hrs and most of that is serpentine belt.
If anyone wants the service spreadsheet from my local audi dealer send me an email, it is in excel format !

    Re: 55,000 Mile Service Costs

I bought the Audi Maintenance plan. Paid, I think, $600 for it. I was told that the 45K service costs $750 just by itself.

I'm wondering if Audi Maintenance pays for brake pads?
