I'd run whatever PSI the sticker in the door jamb says. Very common for vehicle manufacturers to specify what they recommend for each car. The side of the tire is just the minimum and maximum PSI from the tire manufacturer.

Also, FWIW tire pressure should be checked before driving on the tires and warming them up. I usually see a 1-1/2 lb increase in my tire pressure when driving <25mph on cold tires to my neighborhood gas station at just under a mile distance.

That's an odd tire size you are using.

Typically you check the sticker on the door jamb or inside your fuel flap for recommended pressures. I would stick with what Audi recommends. Running lower or higher pressures is usually going to give you bad tire wear, or weird handling.

Your current pressure is too low. The sticker on my Avant Ultrasport says to use 36 psi front and rear for 235 40 18 tires. Full load for the same size tire is 42 psi, but I'd never use that unless I had enough weight in the car to justify it.

Personally, I would NEVER run my 18's under 38lbs again ...I usually I run 40lbs now, saved my rims quite a few times .

I've had no probs with the factory-recommended 36 psi. If your tires have the correct load rating, 36 psi is fine. If you are running a tire with a lower rating, I can see bumping it up. Handling gets too weird up around 40 for my tastes.

Thanks everyone, i'm going bring up the pressure to 36psi all around

As for the door jam sticker, i assumed that was only for the oem tires that came with the car

    Thanks guys

That's correct, if you chage tires, the pressure is going to be a different recommendation. You're not going to have the same pressure on 215/35/19 as you would on the stock 235/45/17... I don't know why you would.

best answer... i dont know why you would go off what the door says vs the tire itself.

215/35/19 are super low profiles. On the heavy 3.0, I would bump it up to at least 40psi in the fronts and 38 in the rear. I have 235/40/18's and I run about 39 in the front and 37 in the rears but my profiles are thicker that yours.

Don't go cheap tires on the 3.0 since the front end is relatively heavy. The good ones will have a 51PSI max cold rating. The S4's actually require XL load tires.

2nd this. that is a crazy tire size and when i looked on tire rack many tires in the size (load rating of 85) were pushing the required load rating for the A4 w/ 3.0L (which IIRC is 93-94). Be careful.

    That's a ridiculous statement.

The sticker lists pressures for the stock tire SIZE, which were determined by the engineers who built the car.

The pressure on the tire itself is the MAX pressure recommended for the tire.

Only a moron would put 50 psi in the tires of his A4. Your car will drive like a rollerskate with that kind of pressure. If you are running a new size not specified on the sticker, there are formulas out there that can help you determine a good pressure.

unless you have a special tire that talks, the sidewall only lists the max pressure.
