How to caculate lug bolt length for spacers.

Getting my RC's powdercoated soon, getting new tires for them, and adding some spacers to bring the wheels out a bit more.

I know the wheels need conical style lugs, but I'm not quite sure how to calculate lug length that I need to order.

For what it's worth I will probably end up running 8mm spacers in the front and 15mm in the rear.

sounds as simple as add the spacer thickness to the bolt length..... Achtuning over in Redmond carries a bunch of sizes and they would most likely have exactly the ones you need.
edit, and why so much narrower in the front? H&R makes 10mm and 12mm too.

    Stock bolt is 27 - 28mm. If you have a 15mm spacer, just do 27 + 15 and you get a 42mm bolt (you could do 40mm).

But is the wheel thickness where the bolt holes are the same between all wheels?

If I find a set of 10mm or 12mm locally I'll probably pick them up, but I'm not quite sure how wide I can go in the front so I figured I'd start small.

Well the OEM RC's are 17x7.5 et43 soo, you can push them out to a et35 and be safe.....get 40mm bolts run a 8mm spacer up front and a 10 or 12.5mm spacer in the rear and you will be just fine....i know all OEM audi wheels are ball seat...and since the RC's are OEM issued wheels im pretty sure they are a ball seat and not conical seat wheel.

btw if you roll the front fenders....you can run a 15mm spacer up front and a 20mm in the rear with 235's and still not rub and still have room.

    *shrug*

    These are conical.

I was planning on running a 225 tire if they make that size in a tire I want.

This is how it looks without spacers, so I think I've got a fair bit of room to bring the wheels out

now thats a new story, if you use 225's like i do, you have ALOT of room. im running 18x8.5 20ET on all 4 wheels, 225 on all 4 tires and rolled front fenders and no rubbing at all.

and are those centric rings in your wheels....? they may not be oem audi.

Yes, those are centric rings. I want to go with 225's since I plan on lowering the car a fair amount more and I want to give myself as much clearance as possible as far as tires go.

Re: How to caculate lug bolt length for spacers.

Hmm then they must not be OEM how wide are they? 7.5,8 or 8.5? but thats fine, then yes they take cone seat...as for the wheels and tires go, i plan on going lower myself, so just rent a fender rolling tool (its really easy) and just roll the fronts, as long as your wheels are 8.5" wide and you have a 225 tire you can make the wheels go all the way to a 20ET and be fine, matter of fact, at one time my back wheels were a 10ET and still no rubbing, but you need to remove some of the felt liner under the rear fenders.

its better if they are 8.5" wide, that way you can stretch the 225's some and give even more room. and those are 18" right? i cant make out on the close up pic.

    They are 18x8.5, with a 32 offset.

Ahhhh ok, well then all you need is a 10mm spacer in front and a 12.5mm spacer in the rear.

    @Frank - Those wheels aren't OEM. They're 18" RC 306's. The ones that came with the car are 17 x 7.5 RC's which have a ball seat.
