    Disable headlight washers?

I'm sick of them spraying down and ruining my fresh wash. Any way to kill them besides super glue?

    Re: Disable headlight washers?

how do the headlight washers spray and ruin your wax when your windshield washers spray as well?

just dont spray? or just dont spray for more than 3 seconds so the headlight washers dont go off if you only want the windshield (although i dont see how just the windshield sprays does anything different in terms of a fresh wax.)

    Re: Disable headlight washers?

the mist that bounces off the headlight goes all over the car... the windshield is after the hood and mainly the over spray goes on the roof... i think thats what he is referring to.

I'm pretty sure there's a fuse you can pull - can't recall the exact number but I tapped into it for my Valentine 1 as I needed a supply that was ignition switched. Take a look at the fuse cover it lists them all out there.

yeah but that gets all over your car also...

the windshield washers are only activated when you pull the washer stalk back for 3 seconds or more with the headlights on.

just do 2 1/2 second bursts if you dont want them to go off.

problem solved. i'm going on break.

not for me, but i dont care either way... i like the bumper washers, and wouldnt disable them. its odd how much time, money and engineering goes into the lil things then the end user doesnt want them... but if the car doesnt come with it (eg: a3) ppl want to retrofit the part. odd.

I don't know - maybe my car is weird. They spray immediately along with the windshield sprayers. They also *soak* the sides of the car and drip all over the place. So I can pull the fuse? Glad that it is that easy.

    Re: Disable headlight washers?

i agree, it really eats my ass hole when i wash my car n someone turns on my wipers cause they see just a little dirt on their side of the window!!!.. but i mean the windshield washers do the same thing if not worse.. the headlight washer get the hood and then the windshield gets the whole damn car..

i say just keep a spare bottle of windex in the trunk next to your spare oil\plugs ;]
Jhm tune, Piggie pipes, Awe Non-res cat-back, Intake spacer, clear corner mod, custom suede trim.. more to come

Turn off the headlights? Maybe I'll try that while doing 70+ on the interstate at midnight. The adrenaline of driving in complete darkness will be good for a quick "wake-up" if I get a little tired, too.

There should be a pump for that just on the inside of the bumper. disconnect the pump. Then issue solved. Maybe Ill try it and let you know if it works first

See now, if you had a B5 these would already be redeployed to spray the intercoolers.
If you live where wipers are needed, disconnect the hose to the nozzel.

have any b5 guys done this? back in the day muscle car guys used to fill the washer reservoir with bleach, then route the lines to the wheel wells and do bleach burnouts...

    Re: Disable headlight washers?

Not to revive an old thread or anything, but I pulled the fuse (#3) and the headlight washers *still* spray whenever the lights are on and you spray the windshield. Not exactly sure what the fuse does. The only other fuse in there that has anything to do with the sprayers is for the motor for both the headlight sprayers and the windshield sprayers. Prob not a good idea to yank that one. Any other ideas?

Why wouldn't you just disconnect the pump?

I imagine this should work. personally, the pump on my car broke and was causing fluid to leak out. So I removed the pump and replaced it with the same little plastic plug that's used on the A4. (A4 and S4 have the same washer fluid bottle, but on the A4 it has a plug in place of the headlight washer pump)

edit: oops, I didn't notice this was a 7 year old thread that got necrobumped yesterday, my bad

Does know if a Autel VAG505 can increase the headlight washer delay so it won't activate or disable it all together?

I don't have a VAG-COM and don't plan on buying it for that single purpose.

Must be a print error in my owner's manual. It says that fuse 37 is for the "Intelligence Module"

In your Audi, did the fuse 37 disable only the headlight washer pump and not the wiper pump? or does it disable both pumps?

    This is an interesting tread.
My 2004 S4 headlight washer ( passenger) is leaking.
After a little research on this forum, I understand that the front bumper has to come off to fix. At the moment, I don't want to pay a dealer/ shop to fix now.
Is there a relay / fuse that I can remove/ disable the light on the dash warning of low windshield fluid.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I don't think you should disable the low windshield warning feature. If you run dry and could damage the pumps.

Instead, I removed the driver side headlight assembly and just reached down and unplugged the connector to the headlight washer pump.

Thanks for the tip, sounds like this is possible, that will be my solution.
