Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

Bought a used Audi B7 that still has the old phone adapter in the center armrest console. Anyone have an idea of how to remove it? Would be nice to have that space back.

    Thanks.

Why not just use it or do you have an alternative phone set up? just wondering.

Re: Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

I was told by the dealership that it's for the older car phones (I think he said Panasonic). As far as I know, this won't work for cell phones. Ideally, I'd like to get some sort of bluetooth adapter so I can use my iPhone hands free.

I also have a B7 with Tech package and planning on using that with a cradle to sync my iphone.

You should check before you take it off, might be the same no?

Re: Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

Dude, that's sick. Never knew they had an adapter that allowed it to work w/ the iPhone. Might have to pick me up one of these guys.

Anyone have one of these already that can comment on the functionality/performance?

I think there's been several posts about this already. Otherwise just search or post a new thread if you absolutely sure you cannot find it.

Re: Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

I have one too and agree that all it does is take up space I would rather have. I'll just do what I did with my older A6 that had the previous worthless navigation.... pull it all out and sell it off and replace the control buttons/knob with a cup holder. Far more useful than that stupid excuse for navigation. I would rather have the added room in my center console than this stupid cradle for a phone I will never use. The Bluetooth works perfect with my Blackberry and I have a cradle and a car charger so what more do I need?

Re: Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

I belive what you are look at is not actually a cell phone adapter but the mounting plate for a cell phone cradle. If you have that mounting plate than your car is already equipped with bluetooth. There are various different cradles that attach to the mounting plate in the console for different types of phones. You don't need a cradle to use the bluetooth though. Just turn on the bluetooth in your cell phone and have it search for a device and it should find your car. The security code should be 1234. The only thing the cradle will do is charge your phone and boost the antenna power through the roof mounted antenna. That iphone cradle like the one in that ebay auction actually attach to the mounting plate in your console. Did you buy your car at a Audi dealership?

Re: Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

Wow, I just tried this and it worked. I didn't have too much time to play with it but I was able to get it to dial a number (not from my phone book though). Looking forward to playing with this a bit more.

No, I did not buy from an Audi dealer - got mine used from a smaller luxury car dealership.

All phones do that once you pair them. My BB 8900 does that as well as my Nokia E71.

Know how to do it w/ the iPhone - my 3GS doesn't have a "Mode" button.

Re: Removing the cellphone adapter in the center console

Works with my iPhone 3Gs. Just need to enable bluetooth on the phone through settings. Do this right after you start the car and the phone will find the car. Enter 1234 as the PIN, and you should be paired. If you tap the audi connection on the iPhone you can set more options. For example I only snyc my "Favorites" to the car, not the entire phone book. That way I have less numbers to scroll through.

The Mode button is on the steering wheel, clicking that lets you scroll through the phone book in the DIS and then dial. It takes a couple minutes to sync the phonebook, the first time you connect.

Yea the salesman was probably just talking out of his ass because he didn't have a clue. Like Audi would make a car in the last 3 years that would only work with a early 90's Panasonic cell phone....haha. If you look on German ebay, you can find Audi cell phone adapters for a shitload of different cell phones that will work in your car.

I want to remove mine too... my ipod makes noises when corning when it's in there bumping up against the plasitc. Bluetooth is the better alternative anyway, and when you have an iphone the DICE dock plays music through the radio.
