    Re: Replacing halogen with hid

no one has really done the preimum b8 Halogen Headlight with HID Bulbs, i believe they usually jus buy the LED bi-xenon headights.

I have and a few others have done HID's in the foglights. The fog bulb size is h11 (im sure u know already), one reason might be grounded incorrect or not connected properly, try checking that. Also try doing a 55w hid fog kit (it will eliminate flashing/blinking and error codes).

yeah. i'm starting to warm up to the premium headlamps. just thought it would look pretty neat with some HIDs on em. I got the fogs going correctly with H11s.

yea, i was looking at doing HIDs but was told that the beam pattern wouldnt be good and that i would need new housing. after doing some research, i upgraded to ecodes for about $800 (not including labor)

So 55w HID will NOT create error code whatsoever? I almost bought a 35w HID kit with additional capacitor. Will the 55w HID over power the stock HID main headlamps?

    thanks in advance

    Re: Replacing halogen with hid

i think the 55w will over power the stock hid's becuase it is not auto leveling but from what i hear u would not get error codes or blinking, but risk melting the housing (no one really knows for the b8). I actually have that adapter and it didnt make it any better.

What do you mean by ecode? Could you link me? Sorry. I've just gotten into being an audi enthusiast for a month.

    Re: Replacing halogen with hid

the only difference i know of between ecodes and the bi xenon headlights sold in america is that the ecodes dont have the amber on the side of the headlight. it looks alot cleaner imo.

you can see the difference in the 1st picture of the second post

I did this on my b6 and there were many plug and play kits, is this not the case with the b8? I went with ddmtuning.com

    hey macuser,

did you have halogens before you changed to the e-codes?

or did you start with the bi-xenons

    thanks

    Re: Replacing halogen with hid

if you don't mind could you give us a brief description of what we need to do to get the bi-xenons installed?

I know I need to purchase the e-codes, the adapter from kufatec,

Are there any other things we need to purchase before we can make the swap?

also after parts and labor and shipping, how much would it all cost?

    Re: Replacing halogen with hid

difference between ecodes and us spec headlights are the beam pattern. ecodes will look like this when on in front of a wall (6ft away or so) \__ \__ where us it's just __ __. the amber is an option on the ecode.

and as for the strobing with hid fogs, i think i might have solved it with a 55wat kit with the "no warning code" resistor boxes sold on ebay. i'll have to test it out for a longer period of time before i'm sure it's fixed. just thought i would share.

don't know if a 55wat kit would melt the headlight housing though, but one piece of advice or more of a break to everyone else driving around you, aim your headlights down or lower than they are now. anytime drop in kits are used in halogen headlights the light is sprayed out and it just blinds everyone else on the road.
The question is, when you turn on your car, does it return the favor?

all you need are the ecode housing that should come with the led lights, the xenon bulbs, ballasts, and the kufatec adapters. you need to wire the kufatec adapters and then you need to vag your car.

i paid about $800 for the ecodes and adapters. i paid the audi technician $200 to come to my house and install the lights.

So did you have the vag your car by yourself or did the Audi tech take care of that. And I assume if he did the vag then he probably also hooked up all the wires like the adapter.

I'm going for the proper swap. Getting the E-codes shipped from Germany soon. Also getting the adapter from kufatec.

I think Im going to try to install them myself and find someone who as a vag-com cable for the b8. If thats too hard or I get lazy I'll go with the audi technician route. hopefully I'll be able to find one who will do the job for like $150.

I have found the lights for close to $700 for both. So there are pretty good deals online on ebay germany.

700 including the HID components? or are you attempting to buy the ecodes and install aftermarket bulbs?

when changing codes with vag, you need to change the actual long code.
