Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just purchased the Forge TIP for my A4 QT. What is the best way to install this? Presumably I take off the plastic under cover and install it like that. Would I need to jack up the car or can it be done without that? I've also got the Forge DV but apparently that will be real easy to get to since i'm installing the TIP. I couldn't find a howto anywhere so I figured i'd ask!

    Thanks,

    Steve

Re: Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

To install the TIP your gonna need to do it from above the car, i removed the airbox and headlight to get to it the best. Luckly you got the forge and not the APR cuz APR requires you to re-route vaccuum lines and ends up being a cluster fukc pita.

The DV will have to be done from underneath the car.

While you're at it, find the write up on bypassing the n249 valve.

    good luck

.....o and just warning you now, the stock clamps from when removing the factory DV will be a pita as well, i dont think you will have a problem removing the factory TIP tho.....for the TIP just make sure you remember which lines go where, be careful when removing the lines from the N75 valve since its super fragile and can break easily. Lastly, make sure you put the turbo end of the TIP on as far in as possible and tighten it well enough so it doesnt end up blowing off....alot of us have experienced it and trust me you dont want to go back trying to get to that

Re: Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

The TIP can be a pain in the ass if you still have the stock airbox, not because it's hard but because there's just alot of shit to unplug and one time clamps to remove. You won't need a jack, once you get the airbox off it's the rubber pipe that comes out of the airbox down to the turbo. The airbox is a couple of screws, nothing serious. As for the DV you may be able to get it without getting under the car as long as your arms are able to fit down below where it is. It was a little of a struggle for me just to re-attach one of the hoses that came off of it without lifting the car up, and I have small arms, so you may just wanna jack it up and throw some jack stands under it and then get under there and it'll take you 5 mins once you get the under engine cover off.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! Finally there is a website that will actually reply to my questions and give me answers
Is bypassing the N249 valve really necessary? I'm just afraid i'll eff something up and end up getting the bad end of the deal.

Re: Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

On the Forge intake there is one small opening nearest to the large opening that hooks up to the airbox. This small opening isn't on the stock intake and i have no clue what hose connects to it.
Here is a picture of the stock airbox on the other A4's- where you see that little end of the hose coming out, mine doesn't have that. I have a 2002 B6 by the way.

You won't eff anything up by bypassing the N249. The N249 is a computer controlled valve that tells the DV when to release air. It's designed to keep your luxury car feeling...well, luxurious - basically it makes the air release a few milliseconds after you release the throttle, instead of right away.

When you bypass the N249, you take control of the DV away from the computer and give control to the intake manifold pressure - the best way to go! Now that the DV is controlled by the actual pressure (not just what the computer thinks) and it reacts much quicker and a little more aggressive.

It's not as smooth as with the N249 operational, but it's geared more towards performance and you'll be glad you did it. Running the DV off the intake manifold pressure FTMFW!

Re: Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

Was there a split production year in 2002 where they used different a different intake? As if they used a different 1.8T in 2002 compared to 2003?

I just can't figure this out since I purchased this hose:
    http://forgemotorsport.com/content.a...duct=FMA4B6IND

But it looks like this one would fit because it doesn't have that opening on the top like the one I purchased does(and my stock one doesn't have the opening obviously):

If you have a B6, you should probably order the B6 one.

If you have a B5, then vice versa.

I can see the title of each part in the links you posted (see bold below), one for B6 and one for B5. The website also provides the generation in the product description.

Yes, I have a B6, but the intake on my B6 is the same as the one on the B5 it looks like. Thats why i was asking if there was a split production year when the B5 1.8T was put into the early B6's.

My B6 doesn't have the opening on the stock intake , whilst the B6 intake I purchased does.

Did you look really hard? Look underneath the intake snorkel on your car, I bet you'll find another inlet, for the EVAP purge if I recall correctly.

Ahh I just remembered why my APR TIP such a bitch! That nipple that u have on the forge is what I need for my car since mine is an 04-05 and the APR one doesn't have that since it is made for the 02-03's! I say we trade!

    This is BS.

04b6sport, Yeah I looked hard and it simply isn't there.

They should at least say something on the website wouldn't ya think??? I wasted my whole morning doing this for nothing. This is probably the biggest PITA thing i've done in awhile.

the 2002 needs a tip with less ports that the 2004 model years. The forge fits perfect on the 04's. You can plug the hole on the tip if you 02 doesn't have the extra hose.

Re: Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

I would plug the port, but there is this round 2 way valve thing that connects to the stock TIP, but it doesn't fit the Forge. The forge hole is too small.

Also, is there any good way to take off the 1-time-use hose clamps? They suck to get off, just wondering if there is a better tool for that.

Re: Best way to install Turbo Inlet Pipe?

Well I ended up just plugging the extra hole with some silicon sealant.
I really don't notice much of a performance upgrade with these two pieces other than that the RPM's sound a little more linear and defined. I'm assuming that is pretty normal and that's what I've been hearing.

Yea you won't notice any hp gains, however You should debaffle your airbox, meaning take out the foam and plastic grate and add a k&n filter you will hear a spool much more than before and your dv will be somewhat louder.

I already added a KN filter

What do you mean by the plastic grate and foam?
When I installed my KN I just swapped it for the old paper filter with orange rim. Is there something else I can do?

Yep. Take out the plastic grate and foam attached to the top section of the airbox.
