    8.5" vs 9" wheel width....same tire size though...?'s

So as some can see from my sig I currently have HRE 546r's on my RS4. They came with the car when I bought her back in January but I honestly am not a huge fan of them. I know HRE's are considered top quality products but the look just doesn't do it for me.

I've recently been really pondering the VMR 710's but I have a small concern about the wheel width being different. I, for the life of me, could not find the supposed 'stamp' (on the inside of the wheel) on my HRE's when I got new tires a couple of months ago that tells me the specs (width, offset, etc). So I currently have no idea if they are the same width as stock RS4 wheels (which is 9" IIRC). There are no spacers so Im assuming the offset is spot on from stock.

So the problem with the 710s is they only come in 8.5". Now if the HRE's are in fact 9" width, what is the actual difference in contact patch (amount of tire touching the road) between the 8.5" and 9" when using the same 255/35 size tire? What about in looks? Would the 255 width be flared OVER the edge of the wheel a huge amount?

I am currently running 20x8.5 and 20x9.0 with Michelin 245/30-20". THe tire brand has a lot to do witht he streach you will see as Nitto, Pirelli, Verdestine run narrower that Michelin or Falken. The streach is not that noticable front to rear and will also give you more fender / bumper mount clearence if you are running an aggressive rear offset. Green Light!

On the back hub of our wheels, there are stamps that indicate the diameter, width, offset, and certifications.

Since we do not offer a RS4 specific fitment, a 12-15mm spacer may be desirable for a more flush fitment. 19x8.5 +35 is what you'll need to work with for our V710's.

If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me. :)

The 255 tire on a 9" rim will only be .3 wider than the change in rim size. So on a 8.5 rim the 255 might be say "x" and on a 9" rim it would be "x" plus .3 of 1/2"...or .15"

So summing it up. the 255 will be .15" wider on the 9" rim which was .5" wider. This factor works pretty closely for all changes in rim size vs same tire. 255s on a 9" is not stetched really. Lots of cars run that size stock on a 9", others run it on a 8.5 On a 9.5 starts to look stretched...nothing like a 225 though.
