What's the whirl noise when opening driver door?

Every time the car is off and I open the driver door I notice this whirling noise coming from somewhere towards the back. What is it?

mine does that when its parked for a while and i unlock it and open a door. its some kind of german power electric hitzer thingy-mu-bobber.... i dunno, but my moms mini clubman and my girls Blow My Wassenhaguer 335i does it also. Dont worry its normal.

Sounds very much like when the parking brake dis/engages. Maybe that's it.

It's the fuel pump priming itself in anticipation of the car starting. This is due to the high-pressure fuel system. My A3 does the same thing, just a slightly different sound. In any case, mechanical music to my ears

I always thought it was the automated Seat(If you have memory seat) adjusting to the right driver..if you have set to the memory seat adjust with the remote.

Are you sure it's the fuel pump? In the B7, it'd prime the pump only the first time, even if you open/close the door several times within a few minutes. And it would only happen with the driver's door. In the B8 (in my case the A5), it happens every time you open the door, driver's or passenger's.

I'm not convinced it's the pump yet.
