    Windshield Washer Reservoir

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yesterday, my washer fluid was barely squirting, so i filled it up last night. i was surprised that it took an entire gallon. i came out later and saw a decent puddle of washer fluid beneath the car. i made sure that all the hoses were on and checked the reservoir for cracks, but everything seems okay. i didn't spill any fluid, but there was probably a quart on the floor.

i'm thinking the reservoir is cracked and i just don't see it. is this available as after market? i'm thinking the dealer will want a ton of money for this.

    btw, it's a 99 A41.8T tip with 69,000 miles on it.

It might be ok...I panicked when I saw washer fluid on the ground when I first got my car...turns out when the headlightwashers kick on it gets washer fluid behind the bumper and then it drips on the ground.

Otherwise if it's more serious than that it's common for the lower washer pump to crack and leak....but if that was the problem more than likely your feet would have been wet from trying to fill the washer reservoir.

FYI my washer reservoir take close to 2 gallons....but I know some of the newer cars have a much smaller reservoir but I'm not sure what year they changed them.

apparently the leaky pump is a common problem. I just had mine replaced about a month ago. The guy who replaced it for me said that there had been a couple of cars coming in with the same problem.

    oh btw, I have a 2001.5

My washer pump for the headlights blew up on me yesterday. You should see the thing it has a huge crack down the middle of it....
Got the new one on order and it should be around $45 for all the parts I need.

there's a tech article on Audiworld that details removing the reservoir and replacing the faulty pump. It's under the S4 section. It should enable you to fix either a cracked reservoir or broken pump.

I'm hoping mine is alright, seemed to work yesterday. The other day when the temp dropped like crazy I drove away and there was a huge pile of washer fluid in the snow on my driveway.
