Re: How do you wax your a4?

    carefully.

Seriously though, I only use off the shelf Meguiar's products after a claying. The car's brand new enough to not need polishing yet. But I'm sure after a couple of years, I'm gonna wanna take it to a proper detailer. I don't trust myself to learn how to polish on this car. I wash maybe once a week, but only clay and wax once a month.

Re: How do you wax your a4?

^^ NO The ice is crap.. It doesnt last.. I use Meguiers clay bar and the quick detailer as lube.. after that I get blue painters tape and mask off the car, any plastics window edges and anything else you dont want the wax to go.. After that I use Mothers Carnuba Paste Wax it works really well and you can wax your car every 3 months.. ALWAYS use clay before any wax application or you will get swirls, and take your time dont just do one pass over the surface witht the clay, really get the cantaminants off.. If your clay becomes soiled washed it or get a new peice.. Apply the wax in a circular motion and take your time and let it set up for 10-15 minutes.. Get it all off and recheck the surface for anything you missed.. Now your happy and your Brand New B8 looks like you just got it off the assembly line..

    -Shane

Edit: If you have any other questions about materials or applications just shoot me a PM im a professional detailer in my area.. The products I listed are good products that you can easily get at Wal-Mart or Autozone not the really really expensive stuff that you dont even need yet for your BN car..

Polishing is like waxing just it doesnt last as long.. because of the easier application.. The things that professionals do are compounding, buffing. Like when people have surface scratches in the clearcoat, then you need expensive professional products to buff away the scratches so they wont come back, not just cover them up with Meguiers scratch x.. You also need a high speed or dual action buffer.. These are expensive and need someone who knows what they are doing or else you can burn the clearcoat..

Re: How do you wax your a4?

Yea, I'm talking about proper paint correction where you strip a tiny bit of the clearcoat to smooth out swirls, random scratches, etc. Is that not polishing? Maybe I'm getting my terminology mixed up.

Polishing is like waxing just usually applied with a high speed buffer and its a quicker process.. A polish polishes the car appearance when a compound or correction cream will take out scratches..

If you're talking about the liquid clay bar then it doesn't really do anything I tried it a year back. I would invest your money in a real claybar that will make your car feel silky smooth

+1 Liquid claybar is useless. The real thing makes such a huge difference, provided you keep the paint nice an lubed.

I use a sealant called Ultima Paint Guard Plus. It takes 10 minutes to apply to whole car and no need to buff off. Flippin' awesome stuff.

Re: How do you wax your a4?

I got everything off the shelf.. wanted to order it from our online sponser but I randomly wanted to detail my car one weekend. this process took 8 hours to complete.

washed with meguiar's nxt carwash with a wash mit and bucket.
    clay-barred my car with meguiar's clay-bar.
zymol cleaner wax with an applicator pad.
meguiar's polish with an applicator pad.
mother's top coat with an applicator pad. it's basically a sealant that brings out the color and shine.

i've had the car for a year now, live in new england and my car looks damn amazing. i did this about 3 months ago and now i just wash the car and after drying it(with a leaf blower) i spray on meguiar's quick wax to keep the car feeling smooth and looking shiny.

The term "polishing" is generally accepted by professionals in the industry as paint correction (even if it is a very mild correction). It is not a protective step such as waxing. Perhaps some consumer-grade cleaner-waxes call themselves polish, but if you purchase professional-grade polishes you would not use those as your last-step protection.

I suggest some browsing of the detailing forum for more in-depth detailing info.

I use fancy stuff. I buy it from eshine.ca which is a CDN site for high end detailing products. P21s, Chemical Guys, Riccardo, Swissvax etc.

basically I copy this guy...and am stunned by the quality of the results. (of course I don't do all of his steps...his work is insanely thorough)

I copied him on the wash method, mitts/towels, wheel products (brush is great for the RS4 style wheel), claybar, polish, wax etc.

For the past few years I have been following most of 'Troy's Guide to Car Care Nirvana', but that link that Sakimano posted looks EXCELLENT because I like pictures!

But I clean/polish/wax my car 2-3 times a year and do:
Wash with Meguire's Gold Class or NXT
    ClayBar
Clean it with Meguire's step 1 cleaner
Polish it with Meguire's step 2 and a Porter Cable
    Wax it with Meguires NXT
and then I try to keep my hands off of the beautiful smooth finish.

    i wash with

meguiars nxt shampoo and mothers wash mit

    dry with cobra WW

descontaminate with mother clay and quick detail as lubricant

if correction is needed i use my trusty porter cable with one the menzerna polish and ccs pads

then i use EX-P from poorboys to seal the paint

and last but not least i use dodo juice super natural carnauba wax

and other ton of products from trim interior tires wheels etc.

but when i get my a4 i will only use swiss wax products

Re: How do you wax your a4?

I've tried Klasse AIO (all-in-one) and Klasse SG (sealant glaze) w/ good results.

Right now I use a Meguiar's clay bar lubricated w/ Meguiar's Quick Detailer and then mask off the car w/ blue painter's tape exactly like S4 BOOST mentioned. The wax I use is Collinite 845 because I park my car outside and the it stands up to the elements pretty well. It smells terrible and it's a pain to buff out if you let it set too long, but it's amazing stuff.

Re: How do you wax your a4?

I guess this is a pretty universal task for us all, and when talking about wax differant situations arise.Sunny climates will require the super shiny stuff, whereas cold/bad weather climates require stuff more on the protection side.In the summer months after claying i use blackfire sealant with blackfire midnight sun wax.In the winter i use collinite (amazing run off lasts months)I swear by guys here at polished bliss

Great guides on how to etc, and their guides for differant colour paint:http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=116
Most products give a similar finish bar the turtle wax crap, and supaguard, and every person will have their fav.But the common denominator is the care that the stuff is applied with.Just do it!!
