    Re: Holy Slow!

I think stock for stock a 3.0's strong-suit is going to be its top end power. Definitely in 1st gear tip doesnt seem real quick. Even sometimes opt out of tip and just drop it down from D to S for snappier starts. But yes I do agree our mods are limited but in all honesty I think the 3.0 is not slow by any means or a 1.8 for that matter, hell, we ride in a strongly designed German vehicle, there are alot of cars that both the 1.8 and 3.0 can spank, just not an RS6 .......stop the hate we are on the same team!

This is true, elevation makes things slow up a lot. Even at 3k and 4k ft. the difference is noticeable. And the 1.8t isn't really effected by it at all. Since i'm in Seattle i pretty much live at sea level, and i noticed that my 1.8t is faster than a lot of cars at elevation. One reason i know this for a fact is that whenever i go up to Stevens Pass during the winter i have more torque and response from my little 1.8t in 5th gear than my VW Passat VR6 did in 4th gear. In my VR6 i could be in 4th gear and i'd be having to push the pedal almost all the way down to get enough to keep the car moving at the speed limit. It's the same thing for my dad's V6 Chevy Trailblazer too, only it's an auto. And in my Audi it's like i don't even notice that i'm climbing a mountain pass because i have no problems with torque in 5th gear. It feels just as normal as if i am driving around home.

But i mean it's not exactly rocket science as to why this is. The N/A V6's are taking in the same amount of air as they normally would but the air is thinner so they make less power. And the 1.8t has it's turbo, which negates that effect significantly.

    Re: Holy Slow!

    it is slower
I think audi made it slower intentionally so that you don't completely burn the clutch or mess up something else. I have this stupid device that measures acceleration and the curve really showed maximum hp in 3rd gear:)

by the way my car has something like 180 hp. ( I too have a4 3.0 ). I feel its slow but don't really know what should I do about it. Should I change piston ring or something ?

the 1.8T's are affected by elevation, but not as much as NA. where NA cars lose about a second in the 1/4 mile up here, turbo cars still lose about a half a second.
BT/BAT build threads make me happy I have a stock turbo

Hopefully in a week or so I can spank a 3.0... Like bad.

Unless it's supercharged. Then it might give me some problems LOL

    Re: Holy Slow!

i have the 3.0 and i got it on purpose. i think the 1.8T is nice, but you def need to put some work into it to make it quick. what really suprises me is that the 1.8T is only like 170hp stock right?

now, my 01 audi TT was the 225hp model with a K04 stock, 3300lbs, and that car was quick. i added the REVO flash and got 255hp/285tq. she was very nice and would spank a lot of A4s out there. do i miss it??? hell yes.

but am i "disappointed" in my 3.0? hell no. its quick enough out of the box, and i do NOT miss the jerky boost of a turbo. yeah there isnt much "tuning" that can go into a 3.0 but whatever.

my feeling is that if you really want to go fast and you want a car that will really compete, well then you need to get an S4 or something better in the first place. in fact i was 99% closed on a B5 S4 a few months ago, but in the end i went with the B6 A4 instead.

we should all be happy with what we have and recognize that these cars are what they are- not the fastest, but nice rides in general.

now what i DONT understand is why audi didnt use the 225 1.8T in more cars, it was and is a great engine:::
