    MODSHACK intake

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've had an Evolution Motorsport intake for 3 months now and last night I decided to put my stock intake back on because the car didnt seem to gain any power (plus it also seems like it was sucking hot air from the engine....BAD!) So im on the quest to buy a Modshack intake (with stage 2).

    Questions:

~What do you guys suggest for my TT FWD....a TTDA or VTDA?
~How do you install the hose(s) that runs down the fender well?
~Do you feel any power difference?
~How difficult is it to install?

ALSO: If anyone is interested in my Evolution Motorsport Intake PM me. I'll post an ad on the classified soon

    Re: MODSHACK intake

Get a VTDA if you'd rather not snake the tubes. Otherwise, removing your nosepiece is an easy day project to thread them out the intake port (OEM passage through sheetmetal at air box). See how Schwing (Modshack) did it at his Fotki albums. VOILA.

Been running a VTDA for 3 years: best TT MkI intake made, period. Engineered, demonstrated HP gains, and demonstrated air charge cooling.

Is the Modshack intake really worth it? I was thinking about buying one.

    Re: MODSHACK intake

I know well over 200 hard-core TT drivers who use it. The technical basis for it exceeds that of the others, adn we've seen the data to justify spending the bucks. My TT (180/2000) makes 235 crank horsepower on the intake, Borla, and MTM software. The change from the intake was tangible, fattening the torque curve and smoothing the pull all the way past red line.

    Nuff said?

"Is it worth it?" - what do YOU want out of the car is the better question I think.

How exactly does it sound with the modshack intake? I want it to sound good. I feel like I am driving around in a hybrid (sound wise) after having a VR6 with full exhaust and cold air carbino (Sp?) intake and P chip lol

@falconcrest32 I have the EvoMS intake and am pretty happy with it. I'm definitely interested to hear your take on the modshack though. I don't have any experience with it so be sure to post your thoughts.

Duble the intakes being discussed are for the mk1 tt so i dont think theyll have any input for us, but on another note did your evo-ms intake make a sound difference? Mine shipped out today! Rod and Ian are great guys

i'll def post my thoughts once i get it. but yea i liked my EvoMS intake (loved the sound) but it made my car run REALLY hot. Once I put my stock airbox in, it felt much "torquey-er" and ran ALOT cooler. Plus I didnt feel a real gain with it. I myself am curious with the Modshack but, again, i'll post my thoughts once i get it installed

I'm really having a tought time trying to get the intake down behind the Battery and under the right front headlight...I see the pic's etc,... I have tried this in the past with no luck...Modshack looks good but way to expensive and I'm really not sure about the hoses out the side fender and the front..

    Re: MODSHACK intake

@AFizzle87: Sorry missed that this was for a mk1. The Evo intake definitely lets you hear the turbo and DV more.

Here is my dyno sheet (Mustang AWD) with 2 avg runs. 1st is Evo intake, DV and tune. 2nd is Milltek DP and tune. Baseline was 219hp/tq

    Re: MODSHACK intake

Yea, i saw you made great power im alva8193 on the vortex, your final power was great the 1st run was kinda low for a flash and intake, the 2nd run is nuts though its crazy how u gained all that from a dp and more aggressive tune im assuming

    Re: MODSHACK intake

what were your final boost settings again? i think u said like spike 21 and hold 20? I spike 24 and hold 19-20 but i made 263awhp on a mustang dyno with just revo stage 1 i just hope a dp and intake will do the trick to see 300+ specially on a mustang

The VTDA and TTDA both have an aggressive throaty growl emanating from under the hood. It is not so load as to be obnoxious, but it is WAY different from the OEM whoosh.

Fear not. We've got 100's of TT owners using the TTDA (twin tubes) and no reports of hysdrostatic lock. The VTDA avoids any normal possibility of hydrolock, but runs a few degrees warmer.

    Re: MODSHACK intake

BTW coach- the VTDA/TTDA intake drops on behind the battery easily, and the hoses go to the LEFT front. Are you doing it wrong, or did I misunderstand?

"Normally runs hot" is wrong. You have a cooling problem. I live in sultry HotLanta and stay center-pegged except when tracking the beast. Even then, switch on the AC, both fans come on, and it drops 10* like that. Normal on any well-maintained TT is center-lined in the gauge. Start looking for a problem: water pump, fans, fan control module, or venting the system.

The choice between a VTDA and TTDA will NOT make any difference on your temperature. NONE. Whoever gave you that impression was wrong. The system charge air will be cooler, and underhood temps too, but bulk coolant temps will remain normal in a properly maintained engine.

I think the isntructions (all over fotki albuums from TT Forum at Quattroworld) say to run it out through the port that the OEM airbox uses, inside the fender, and then down to the left side grille close to the ground. You're doing it wrong.

well my car runs center-lined in the gauge as you say but the needle starts moving to the right when the car is at a stop light or when its stationary. u think its still a cooling issue? my coolant temp usually averages at 95°C. its actually gotten up to 103°C before. Thanks for the help im just trying to keep my TT running strong....she's been having hick-ups lately so I need a lil help form people experienced with TT's.

Also TTDA or VTDA? still struggling to decide which to get. and is the modshack stage 2 worth it?

    Re: MODSHACK intake

I can't imagine MD is worse than HotLanta for ambient heat/humidity, so I opine you have a cooling problem. Have the following checked:

Turn on AC. Open hood, verify BOTH fans running.
Verify the water pump was replaced on-schedule with a metal impeller WP.
Verify the TB was done at 70K, no later.
Verify a new t-stat has been installed on same interval as TB.

Turn on heat, full, and let run for 15m with heat going thourhg core.

At idle, in a 95*F day, your TT should stay on centerline.

    Re: MODSHACK intake

Choice is yours on VTDA vs TTDA. I got the VTDA because of the simple install. I gave up a few HP on a hot day, maybe.

The Boost Machine and VTDA (along with good software) make for an excellent combination. Tune it per the instructions.
