Audi s4 Premium Plus Vs Prestige! Unbelievable!

I am really piss at what I am reading....the Prestige is 6k more...and I was looking at all the specification. it only cost about 3400.00 to get the Navi + B&O sound system on the Premium Plus. so I was wondering where did the 2600 go.

I cannot believe they changed these specs this year. It is too funny! Here are the things that came standard with my Premium Plus A4 , but now I need to get a S4 in Prestige in order to get these following:

1. Auto-dimming, power adjustable, heated exterior mirror
2. Auto-dimming interior mirror with compass
3. Driver Seat Memory
4. Audi Advanced Key

You can only get these options only with Prestige Model...and cannot add on to Premium Plus

These options are so basic that should come standards for the s4, what you guys think?

I agree, at least with the auto dimming and compass mirror. It is such a simple and basic feature that cars have had since the early 90's. My first car was a '93 Dodge Intrepid ES and it had an auto dimming mirror and compass. Same with the '94 and '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee's I had after that. A $46,000 car should have it standard, period. That feature is the only thing that would force me to get a S4 prestige over a PP. As stupid as it may sound to some people, I am not about to spend at minimum $46,000 on a new car and not have that feature after my past 6 cars have had it.

i agree it was not cool to remove the auto-dimming mirrors, compass, and memory seats from the premium plus (they did this for all models i think). and i also think the advanced key should be a stand alone option. i don't think it's worth being pissed about though. none of those are that big of a deal... though i will miss them since my last car had them.

still it made sense to create more differentiation between the premium, premium-plus, and prestige. in my opinion the premium was way below the other two before.

as far as the S4 goes, i would totally agree an S model should have those first 3 standard, but with such a great base price it's hard to complain.

I think you're right...but I think Audi had to do this to be able to say you could buy one for the same price as a 335

unfortunately I'd never ever buy a car without driver's seat memory because i'm 6'5" and my wife is 5'4" and i would go mental moving the seat around if she had driven it. When we were looking at a car for her this year (which i drive regularly) we found that Audi is getting really petty and lame with the packaging.

i.e. on an A3, to get driver's seat memory and quattro...two must haves...it pushed us into the ultra fancy 3.2 version which was about 12,000 more than a base A3. Soooo stupid.

on the B8 A4 that we bought, the packaging wasn't as bad...but it was still frigging annoying.

i.e. tech package for $2000...the only thing we wanted was the stupid homelink thing...but it was packaged with blind-spot warning system (lane change assist); push button start; and something else that I didn't give a fk about.

I think he wrote off his 09...and is shopping for a new car.

It's also a VERY legitimate concern that everyone in Canada bitched about on the 2009 A4. Canada changed the packaging in 2010 with more standalone options because people were refusing to pay $2000-3000 for stuff they didn't want. So as a result there are LOTS of very basic A4s floating around Canada.

Audi always seems to do that -- offer things in the first model year and then take them away in subsequent years. My '02 A4 came with heated front and rear seats. After '02, you couldn't even get the rear heated seats as an option on the A4. Also, the '02 Sport Suspension was probably the lowest of any A4 ever offered. There were several other items, but I can't remember them right now.

I'm glad I got my '09! I always buy the first model year ('96, '02 & '09) and I'm always satisfied (except with the control arms issue with the '96 )

The $2600 goes to the stuff you've mentioned plus:
- 19" wheels ($900 if ordered separately)
- DVD player
- Voice control of nav/audio/phone

agreed... Audi should offer everything as a standalone option.

sure it makes sense to offer base package levels, but also allow a custom a-la carte option.

It shouldnt be hard for them in the factory... they seem to manage doing Exclusive shit just fine via Quattro GmbH.

Interesting discussion - I think everybody would agree that a la carte ordering would be optimal. However, from a business perspective no matter how the factory is organized it will add cost. Also, I think sometimes we forget about R&D spending which has to be covered. This new engine certainly cost Audi millions of dollars to design, build, test and we the consumer benefit from that. We all want the latest and greatest technologies in our cars - we all want a great motor which is what we are getting. The downside is that something else may have to become an added cost or becomes unavailable. Just some thoughts - it is hard to please everybody and it is frustrating when the consumer disagrees with the decisions of the producer - Audi in this case.

I'm happy if they offer an A4 with a 3.2 normally aspirate V6, a 6MT gearbox, an S-Line suspension, a GPS Nav package that includes a reasonably decent AM-FM radio and the abilty to read MP3's from an SD card or thumb drive. Make the old 'titanium package 18 inch wheels and tires at least optional and every thing else is not an issue.

My B7 has all that and more and, as it currently stands, It'll probably be my last Audi, unless they change their current ways.

I disagree. Nothings free. If it's on as standard then it means they've added it to the cost. I don't want a compass (still not sure why you guys have them!!) plus I don't want the Advanced Key or seat memory. If it was standard then I'd be paying for things I don't want.

The only logical way to do it is make the car more customisable. In the UK we benefit from a lot more freedom of choice than you guys across the pond but it's still a long way from a simple tick list.

Haha if you have lived in US then u would understand why a compass is needed. U can not even compare roads in Us and Uk. My other car does not have compass and it pisses me off sometimes

I was bothered by a few of these things as well which, has turned into a collection of mods I'm enjoying putting together :)
For the dimming mirror, my window tints took care of that and I have nav so no need for compass. Installing folding mirrors (which werent ava at all) And a few others I have retrofitted and just activated with vag.

It's funny- I never thought I'd need a compass in the car until I got the one that came with my '09. Now I'll never go without one again!
