    Keyless Entry Problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

I've had my '09 A4 Prestige for 3 months now and I LOVE it! I recently had a problem with the keyless entry feature. I am no longer able to lock and unlock the doors by touching the square button looking thing on the handles. I tried both key fobs with no luck. I am still able to lock and unlock by pressing the buttons on the fobs. Any ideas or solutions? Or is it best to bring it into service? Thanks in advance...

When unlocking, are you grabbing the handle or touching the button on the front? The button on the front is the lock button, you need to grab the whole handle to unlock.

As for locking, touch the button on the front, but make sure you are NOT grabbing the handle with your other fingers. Make sure your hand is not on the handle, then tap the button.

    Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure something is broken. Same thing happened to me. Can you still use the push button start? I couldn't. They had to replace one of the door modules and the antenna I believe.

As soulman978 mentioned you do have the grab the door handle to unlock, have you try that and locking the door with the button??

I have the same problem so I called the local dealership and they said they will fix it. I'll deliver the car Sept 3, so we'll see after that what was wrong.

What was the problem. I know how to use it and mine stopped working this week. Key and push button start both continue to work.

Wondering if anyone has figured out a solution to this problem? This just happened to me today. Both key fobs work fine, as does the push button start.

This is now happening to me too. Can anyone comment on how this was resolved? Guess I'm making an appt with Audi, as I'm at 48.2k miles and just less than 4 yrs in, so better now things to go wrong than a couple months from now....

Also, anyone have a price for this fix? For the amount of people having it I'd like to know for the future. This seems like it would be expensive.

I'm scheduled for Tuesday next week. Once I see what they did to fix it, I can always ask for a ballpark estimate if I wasn't under warranty.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I just had this happen to me. None of the doors will unlock by grabbing the handle and the car won't lock by touching any of the pads. Push button start still works just fine though. I double checked all the settings in the MMI, reset it and went through the process of programming my seat settings back to the key. Unfortunately nothing seemed to make any differences.

For those of you who experienced this in the past what was the ultimate solution? I only discovered the issue tonight so I'll be calling the dealership tomorrow to talk to my SA, but in the meantime I'm hoping someone else had a simple fix!

    Thanks

For me, the sensors inside the doors went bad. It started with the passenger side door, but then the rear driver side went bad about a week or so later. They ended up replacing all 4 door sensors under warranty. Everything has been working as expected since the replacement...

The first thing that I did was to replace the battery in the key (see the manual for instructions and battery information). Ultimately, though, I had to have the driver's door sensor replaced by the dealer.

That sounds like the direction that mine is going. Last night none of the doors worked, so I checked to see if there were any codes and there was one for a short in the drivers side rear door. After clearing the code the rest of the doors started working again, but the rear door is still not functioning. Called my SA this morning and have an appointment for Thursday morning.

This past weekend I was at a winter driving school where the car had a bunch of people getting in and out throughout the day, while constantly being caked with ice/snow. I was hoping that maybe that had caused a temporary software glitch, but it sounds like the sensor really did just go bad. Oh well!

    Thanks for the feedback!

..and for the record, I learned when one sensor goes bad, it typically affects all of the doors (except the trunk). The dealer SA reset things using the push button start, then showed me how all the other doors worked except for the one with the bad sensor. Then after a few more open and closes, all the doors stop opening (even though it was only one bad sensor).

My front driver and passenger side doors have stopped working, but my rear drivers door still works. I'd definitely like to know how much this would cost to fix the sensors if you are able to get an estimated price when you take it in.

I didn't see this before I picked up my car, but they finished it pretty quickly. I dropped it off at 7am for an oil change and to fix the door sensor and I got a call before 10am that it was finished. On the work order it said that the sensor had simply come unplugged. Sorry I wasn't able to get an estimate for you.

Kevin, I had the same issue with my '10 A4 Prestige. I took it to the dealer and they ended up replacing the entire sensor on the door, it was covered under warranty. If your car is still under warranty, I'd advise you to take it in before your warranty expires.
