    Re: lowering audi a6..

    You could either;

    Buy Lowering springs $250 or so
    Buy Lowering springs n Shocks $750 or so
    Buy Coilovers $1200-1900 depending on which brand you get

    I have no clue how much labor it would be, but im thinking about $200-400 probably... but dont quote me on that one

    You're probably looking at...

    $750 for springs and shocks
    4 - 4.5 hours of labor @$75 (20^2's rate) so $300

    Realistically $1100

    Re: lowering audi a6..

    If you have the sport package, and your shocks are in good shape, you can get away with just springs, about $250 a set. Install yourself to save more. But thats not really the best way. You should do shocks same time. Or you can roll the dice finding a used setup in classifieds or ebay and maybe get a good deal. But who knows the condition then. I have seen coilovers go for like 5-600 used. Shock/spring setups for $400. But better off doing it right and getting new shocks and all. Do it yourself (rent a spring compressor if you don't have one) and you are done for like $750.

    Dude the economy sucks right now so hop onto craigslist.com and I'm sure you will find plenty laid off mechanics in your area who will do the install for next to nothing. That's what I do all the time. I had a guy install my axles for $40/side and my struts and springs for $140

    Everyone asks and that a big NO. Do it if you please, your car will still drive but it will ride like crap. Plus you have to pay for install twice when you cant take it anymore.

    Shocks are designed to work on a specific zone. When you lower you take the schock out of its designated zone and the preformance will be crap. If your gonna do it you might as well save the money and just cut the springs.

    Your lowing the car beyond its reccomended operating height for the shocks. If your gonna do it anyway at least let us know how it rides.

    If you can spend the extra money for shocks you might as well do it otherwise your spending labor twice when you go back to install shocks.

    Well the cheapest solution would be to jack the car up. Pu a torch on the stock springs until they get red. Then remove the jack and jump up and down on that corner. still maintains the oem quality but gives you want you want. If you were local I would insist you come over and we do this at my place.

    2.5 fingers is pretty close, but 2 fingers is too tight for me. LOL at all the guys who can afford springs and labor, but not a $5 tape measure or lessons on using one.

    Shocks are expensive, but there's a reason - they're worth it. Installing decent shocks is the difference between a jittery, unpredictable, hard to control kidney-busting lincoln town car and a sporty sedan.
