2001 A4 Symphony radio in safe mode

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I have a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T. I have the Symphony radio, i will be getting the code tomorrow, but the problem is, i cannot get it to display the 0000. Ive done it before, but i think it is in total lockout mode. Someone told me to leave my ignition on with the radio on for one hour, but that didn't work. Any thing else i can do?

It just stays in SAFE mode...irritating!!

When you left the radio on and came back to it, was the radio off?

Audi is such a scam for these radio codes... Costed me 65 bucks to get mine back in the day.. so i could have music for all of..3 months.. I then put in a Double Din with navi!

you can have a dealership look it up for you. They have to pull the radio out, get the serial number, and then email Germany.

If you have the manual for the radio that came with the car, there is a very slight chance that it may be in there. If not, go to the dealership. You only have to do it once.

As for that site, not sure. Give it a try and tell the rest of us!

I couldn't tell you; I've never done it. But you can buy the removal keys on ebay for cheap.

Get the removal keys or you will likely break the radio surround trim piece.

Ask me how I know??? Putty knife/thin kitchen knife not work so good.

Re: 2001 A4 Symphony radio in safe mode

    howdy,

i had the same problem as you fools for about 3 months... yes, im in college and have been driving to my girlfriends place (1 hour away) fairly often and back home (2 hours) occasionally with NO RADIO because of that damn stupid audi safe mode...

first off i bought the little keys to take out the radio... i have taken many a radio out in the past 8 years and have never, ever had a problem (when using the proper keys). well i couldnt get mine out! i made a post on here trying to figure it out but no luck...

so a week or so later on a sat i drove the 30+ mins to the nearest audi dealership, and their service department was closed, but one service guy happened to be just about to leave so i caught up to him and asked him about it... he told me they would have to take the radio out and do all this shit with the VIN and AUZ# on the back of the radio which would be "a half hour atleast" ($50 or more) this kinda pissed me off i was hoping they would just do it.... but like everyone else with this problem they wouldnt...

i then tried another set of keys hoping mine were just off a little... again didnt work...

so, me being very frustrated at this point (about a week ago now) i randomly was watching an episode of dexter and decided to call up carosel audi in the twin cities (where my car was bought new) (i am 3rd owner) anyways i got a service guy on the phone and politely told him i had been working on my car, took the battery out for a bit and then my radio has been in safe mode ever sence... well he just said you should go out to your car and read me off the VIN number from your car...

i went out and read the VIN to him and about a minute later he says "ok here we go your radio code is 1477" and i said ok thanks a lot and he said youre welcome and i hung up the phone in disbelief. sprinted outside to my car pushed in those 2 buttons and then typed in 1477 and pressed the 2 buttons again and my radio fking turned right on!!!

wow i was so happy. i couldnt believe i didnt try that to start off (the reason i didnt was because i read on here that they woudnt do it like that, and couldnt even do it like that ) but it worked !

so morale of the story is that you should just call in a dealership and tell them you need your radio code pulled and you know they can do it haha (maybe drop the line of you need the radio code to sell the car to a friend so you can go into their dealership and buy a new audi, but this is holding the sale back ;) )

you might need to call the dealership that your car was originally bought at though? i dont know but that worked for me.

    good day hope this helped

Re: 2001 A4 Symphony radio in safe mode

and dont buy those radio removal keys, they are impossible to get the radio out with...

(maybe someone before me tried to use them and broke the little tabs off , but i highly doubt that seeing as the only other 2 owners were both women...) but i woudlnt go that route...

It is very easy. Take your trim off, it adds ten minutes to the job but makes it very easy. I used the keys that came with my Kenwood head unit, came right out.

To give you your number for free it must have been previously serviced at their shop (then they'll have it on file)...I was not as lucky as you.

Update: I remembered the guy I bought the car from telling me that he had work done at a different dealership in town. Called them, BAM. Got the code for free in 2 minutes.

Re: 2001 A4 Symphony radio in safe mode

Update: Went to the audi that the car had many maintenance , it was audi strasse something , at the same address than the one i went, but since 2001 they change their name and renovate they change the building etc,
So because it is not name audi auto strass anymore and now its Audi Prestige, they dont have any of my record in their computers, so i have to pay to remove the radio so they can get the serial behind the radio !
Theres one thing i dont get, i called audi canada clients service, and ask the gentle women who assist me, why is it impossible to get the number of the radio serial code with the vin of the car, logicaly it must be associated no ? Anyway i'll pull it appart and i'll call them once i'll get the serial number ! crap service !

    What two buttons?
I need to clean my battery connections, but don't want to disconnect it until I know for sure how to enter the radio code back in.

    Hi,

I have a 2004 audi A4 quattro. Changed battery and now the 'safe' is being displayed on my symphony II radio screen. However, no matter which combination of buttons I press, it won't bring up numbers for me to put in code. How do I fix this?
