    Sidemarker Install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone had any experience installing the new side markers for their A4? I bought a set from ECS and they just came in today.

I looked in the DIY section, but the post there seems a little outdated and there are no pictures.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136874

    Can someone help me?

    Thanks!

    Re: Sidemarker Install

    i searched and found:

"just ply the right side of the sidemarker on the left side of the car and it'll pop right now, and do the opposite on the right side."

but the DIY you posted is asking for bumper removal, etc?

    Hey,
I did this install sunday on my new A4. It was really difficult to remove the sidemarkers from the outside- I tried for a while using a plastic knife, but I was worried about scratching the paint. I wound up unscrewing the two torx screws in the front wheel well. I pulled the cover back, fished around with my hand to feel the inside of the side marker, then put a screwdriver in there and just popped it out. You have to give it some oomph to get it out, its really in there!!

Once you get the old sidemarker out, installing the new ones are easy- you just pop them in.

Hope this helps- if needed i can snap some pics for you tomorrow.

Bingo - this is the way to go. Only need to remove a couple of torx 20, IIRC. I recommend a putty knife to wedge the yellows off the adhesive. You'll want to use a surface cleaner to remove the old adhesive and prep for the new ones - I found that working it off with my fingernails worked best.

    Re: Sidemarker Install

Are you guys talking about the side reflectors or the side turn signal lights? I actually have a set of both that I am looking to replace.

So, I have two pieces that will replace the amber strips and then I have two side turn signal enclosures for the sides as well. Sorry if I wasnt more specific. I've come to find out the side markers can have dual meanings.

Anyways, can you specify which of these you were talking about and then if you have any tips of the other?

    thanks!

    Edit: Further explanation...

For these, you literally just pull them out. I did this install as well this weekend- I just gripped the turn signal, and pulled it while turning it clockwise/counter clockwise back and forth. Eventually the turn signal just pops out. Once you pull the turn signal out of the car, just unplug the bulb from the blinker and plug in your new turn signal.

    Re: Sidemarker Install

I just replaced both rear sidemarkers on my B7. Nothing to remove, you just have to slightly pull the bumper out, then reach up and pinch the clips, it will pop out. If you get the 2 clips on one end loose, the third will follow. I did lose a bit of skin reaching up behind the bumper.

    Re: Sidemarker Install

Damn...that was a tough one. The side markers were a pain, but the blinkers were a piece of cake. Here are some pics...sorry for the bad quality, it was dark in the garage (raining outside)

P.s. Tried to put the vinyl stripping (BMW Shadowline) on over the trim. WOW...make sure you have a lot of patience and a lot of time. I went through half of the roll before getting one done. I am going to take it to a detailing shop.

    Re: Sidemarker Install

I'm actually getting the trim painted as we speak. I decided to ditch the vinyl idea. My cousin does some good painting work, so I am having him work on my car.

Kinda weird - I noticed that I have a little moisture in one of the side blinkers this morning. Any thoughts on that? How do you prevent moisture? Just make sure everything is nice and tight?

It does look nice. After about a half of a roll, we got one piece of trim done. It looked cool, but man was it a lot of work. I guess it all depends on your patience level.

Good luck!! I think you will like it...I would have, if it could be magically put on.

My ECS blinkers did the same thing (not sealed well I guess) so I ordered a set from Parts4Euro instead and replaced the ECS ones.

just use a screwdriver on the right side (closest to the front of the car) of the sidemarker and it will pop right off. If you are worried about scratching it, put a credit card in there, took 3 mins

make sure your pulling out from the side closest to the door. It should pop out easily the side closest to the bumper will prob break it because it's like hooked under the inside of the fender.

Looks great man, BTW to anyone else who has done this, does anyone know where you can get color matched side markers for the back red ones as well? They dont look like the same shape to me as the front ones.

They are not the same shape. I color matched mine with paint I bought from audi, but if you are not confident in your painting abilities then bring them to a body shop to get sprayed.

Was a pita putting them in. Once I got the amber ones out I went to snap in the smoked ones and the double sided taped on lens holder pushed through the bumper. I had to pull the holder and reflector off the inside of the drivers side via the wheel well and put new tape all around it then reinstall. The pass side I was able to get to under the car once I took off the engine shield. Total time an hour. Not as easy as it seemed initially. Looks good though!

turn signals 7 min maybe. Just did my front reflectors at lunch and just had to unscrew two bolts in front of the wheel holding the weather lining in place. The passenger side was easy 10 minutes, the drivers side was a PITA because of the lip right above it making it hard to squeeze the tab (i just broke them off with frustration and they both went in like butta

All you need to do with the sidemarkers is press toward the front with your thumb and pull out. No hardware necessary. Takes 3 seconds.
