    Adaptive Cruise Control Retrofit?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well, as everyone who bought a B8 A4 in Canada probably knows, we don't have Adaptive Cruise Control as an option at all here on the '09 A4 (why?!). This got me thinking if anyone has been doing a retrofit for ACC in their B8 A4?

I've seen a number of people retrofitting (generally older) A6s and A8s and I imagine for the A4 it would be a similar type of job: New gauge cluster, control module, wiring, harness, cruise control stalk, camera and a different cover over at the front-right fog-light (where I believe the ACC camera sits).

This is one feature I would kind of like to have, even though my right leg is fully capable of handling the job itself, haha.

I haven't seen that retrofit done by any forum members yet, but as you said it should be possible (with enough time and money). It's one of those options I found completely worthless when placing my order and probably wouldn't use if my car came equipped with it. Is that what appears to be an extra fog light on some cars?

    Re: Adaptive Cruise Control Retrofit?

If it's by the passenger-side (for us LHD fellows) fog light, I believe it is. Which would make it an easy fit! Just need to get the proper plastic cover to replace the stock one.

This is what it looks like:

Op: Hate to burst your bubble, but there is nothing easy about it. You have to essentially rewire the entire car, not to mention cutting into the exterior/interior, recalibrating the ECU, etc. This is just a rough diagram.

Not saying it cant be done, but probably not worth it.

start a poll asking Adaptive Cruise Control owners if they like/use it.

    I reckon you'll find the poll comes back 80% don't like/use it.

There are that many people that use it? I find 20% to be pretty high.. if I'm on the cruise control and catch up to the car in front of me, I don't want to slow down, I want to pass it!

But that's what us engineering types are known for... Taking something we REALLY don't need (or necessarily really really want) and spending an inordinate amount of time making it work! haha... But in all honesty, I agree that I would probably not use it too often if I had it; it could imagine it would be a pain in a standard tranny A4 regardless, haha.

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone completed the ACC retrofit for the A4 FL 2015?

If so, do i need to replace my instrument cluster with one who supports acc? My cluster ref code is 8K0920932D, do i need to change it?

I cannot find any information on the instrument cluster part number compatibility with ACC function.

    Adaptive Cruise Control Retrofit?

    yes i completed it.

it’s somewhat complex for A4 only from a parts collection point of view.

the correct cluster for A4 is 8k0920982F you can’t find these used. it’s damn near impossible. have to buy new from europe costs 1,100
the windshield if your doing the lane assist with it can’t be ordered in the usa under any circumstance. i tried for a month. had to order from europe. had a friend help. i don’t know about canada. windshield plus shipping is $1,500. i’ll leave lane assist out of it since it’s another thing.

the radar sensor is about $300.
the mount for the radar is $185 also can’t find used anywhere.
i have an extra one for sale if you go down this road for $145. the wiring is actually insanely simple. i also have the wiring harness. one power, one ground, can bus hi/lo

coding is simple and straight forward. the stalk is hard to find. it took 6 weeks to find one used. the stalk new is around 600 used 200 if you can find one. the correct clock spring i have again if you want to go down this road.

i have all the part numbers all the instructions and can answer any questions if you choose to do this.

mine works perfectly and i use it constantly. it’s my favorite feature on the car.

your completely incorrect on all accounts here brother. sorry to burst your bubble. i did it. wiring is the simplest thing in the world. four wires. power, ground and can bus hi/low. programming is super simple.

part research and collection was the hardest part. price is the only thing difficult because finding these parts used is extremely difficult. once you have the parts the retrofit is one of the easiest to do. nothing needs to be done in the ecu at all.

    Hi prkieffer,

Thanks for the info, i already have the radar, the mounting bracket, and the stalk is already ordered, only thing missing is the harness (thinking on kufatec), but the instrument cluster is the only thing that is missing, i will try to find here in europe the part 8k0920982F that you mentioned, however i thing that part is already on revision T (8K0920982T) but i am unsure it will fit my 2015 A4 facelift 2.0 Diesel, i saw on a german blog that the petrol and diesel car variants, have different instrument clusters (tachometer/speedometer markings), maybe you or someone here can shed a light on this.

If i keep my old instrument cluster, will ACC work? I known that there are some missing LEDS/resistors on the pannel display, but other than that, will the color display with the radar lines/distance work since my instrument cluster is a colored one?

    Thanks for the help

US doesn’t have this cluster for some reason. bought it from u.k. A4/S4 in US might have an ACC but i could never figure out the part number for it if they do.

True, but after some digging on the internet for part numbers i got the correct one for ACC for my car variant: 8K0920932G
The original i have is 8K0920932D, so just a change in the last letter to go from standart cluster to ACC cluster.

    For future reference:
    Non ACC cluster: http://www.oemepc.com/audi/part_sing.../251891/lang/e
    ACC cluster: http://www.oemepc.com/audi/part_sing.../265160/lang/e

500€ for the damn cluster is a bit priced, i just finished a MMI3G to MMI3G+ retrofit, ADS retrofit, screen mirroring for android/IOS, if i spent more money/time in the car my wife will put me in the doghouse for a month...

When i assemble all the parts i will let you know if it works with the non acc cluster (fingers crossed).

To mount the radar securing bracket is it an easy task to do, or do i have to take out the bumper on a jack lift to access the mounting point?

    Thanks guys.

you need pressure fittings and a special tool to install them. my bumper was already off when mine was installed.
do you want the wiring harness?

    Hi Guys,

Im just about finishing the ACC retrofit , only thing left is to remove component protection from the radar and do the calibration. However i´m having errors with the code for the radar module 13. Can someone provide the code for an European 2015 Audi A4 S-line FL 2.0 Tdi, Manual transmission, FWD, no trailer hitch?

    Thanks

Well, went to an audi dealer to remove CP and found out that the radar unit is from a stolen car, i got another radar unit this time a 8K0 907 561B instead of a 8K0 907 561 , problem is now i got the: "controle module incorrectly coded". I tried my previous unit code but this error keeps popping up, tried also other codes which are accepted but this error keeps coming back what do you guys think? If i remove CP will this error go way?

    thanks

Well i removed the CP but the error "controle module incorrectly coded" remained, however when i looked at the original code that came on the radar unit was different, i noticed that the coding changed from radar "8k0907561" to the B version of the radar 8k0907561b (newer)

    To summarize:

    8k0907561: coding A0A0D0

    8k0907561B: coding 00A8A0

    The difference is:
    00A8A0 = 43168
    00A0D0 = 41168

Seems to me that Audi changed the 4th position bit for this new radar revision 8k0907561B: 4(1)168 to: 4(3)168

After i changed the bit and converted the number to Hexadecimal i finally got the code accepted)))

i’m having an intermittent issue where the radar sensor loses connection every 6-8 weeks. only way i can get it back is to pull the grill off disconnect the plug and reconnect then clear codes and it comes back.

only thing i can figure is the sensor is failing slowly. bummer because i can’t pin it specifically. i hate chasing problems.

    Well guys,

After checking the work involved in soldering the missing leds to get the ACC leds in the tacho i took the plunge and bought a new tacho for 300€ with 30km on it.

For the adaptation of the tacho you need a proper soldering station as the leds and resistors are very small and you easily might end up damaging the board...

Just finished to install the new tacho, removed CP, copied coding and adaptations (KM, service intervals) everything is working fine, ACC full retrofit done))

Next retrofits on the pipe: lane assist and side assist
