    Custom Headliner!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, So My headliner glue I guess as worn off
and recently in the last weak as started to hand and flap in the wind.

It's annoying so I'm going to be doing a custom headliner.

I've done one before and Made it stock material for my Old DSM.

I went to a local Import meet and Allot of Honda's are doing the material
inserts. And I'm going to be honest. I really like it.

Here are a couple shots I snapped. I thought the money one was funny.

I havnt decided what the headliner will be.
I want something I will like, and when people see it will make them laugh.
I really liked the money one. lol
I found one Just like that but it's MONOPOLY MONEY Hahahhaa

Throw me out some ideas and let me know what you think.

    Re: Custom Headliner!

Well, I'd first start off with a color. Work with a common color scheme, such as the interior of your car. The alacantra would be really nice, but I'm not sure how cheap it would be. Also, you should look into something that won't fade with direct sunlight! Last thing you want to do is spend hours putting it in, and then in 6 months time have it faded and look like garbage.

Some guys like the burberry stuff, others like suede, some like other stuff. Search around, find out what fits you best, and go with it. Unfortunately, it's not our car so we can't decide for you, but I think you should go with something that speaks you. Know what I mean?

    Re: Custom Headliner!

I understand, I don't see how the Headliner itself will see much Direct sunlight. lol
Kinda confused there. But Yeah I will go with what I end up liking the most.
I just want Ideas thrown around from the rest of you fellow audi owners.

Yeah, that one with red seats is a Honda accord,
Never seen so many very clean Honda's... Very tastfully done.

    Re: Custom Headliner!

Well, I wasnt talking about the headliner directly when I stated the line about the sunlight. My apologies for the confusion. I was referring to the interior as if you were going to do the door cards and other various sections as well. Seeing, as thats what most do when they do the headliner too.

Suede, or a plaid (think GTI style) if you can tie it in with a few other pieces in the interior.

    Keep it classy.

What would you guys think about.... CF. lol
I'm contacting a company about possibly producing a 45" by 60" single sheet
to use for my Headliner. It's not real Carbon fiber...
Check thread here. It's pretty nice though. I thought it would be interesting, custom and
    not the norm.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300139

It's an actual weave with a reinforced backing. No not tru cf but I think it would make
    for an interesting Headliner....
I'd polly do the sunroof slider and visors the same. Or just a Black suede...

I'm re-doing my headliner and I already checked out that CF stuff, I agree it will look awesome but the problem is you need something thin enough to not interfere with surrounding pieces and stretchy enough to wrap around corners and such. I am almost positive I am going to wrap my headliner in Digital Army Print. I love it and it's thin enough to be wrapped and stretched. I had suede but it was too thick and sagged in only 5 weeks of weird weather here in VA. Good luck and like someone else said do what YOU want, you don't necessarily see it until you are inside the cabin. Also think about the shift boot and right armrest cover to match.

    Re: Custom Headliner!

Yeah, I'v been doing some research and stuff and that stuff will work as a headliner.
Already talked to the company and got a price for a One peice Large sheet
for me to use as the headliner.

I'd of course be doing other intr CF to match.

I just havn't done it so I do have that lil "I wonder if I'll really like it"

I'm sure I will though, so we shall see.

Here's some pics of the same exact material id be buying...

These pics are for resining in parts..

Wow... Yeah I'm sure that cost him Thousands....
This will cost me $80. Hahaha (For just the headliner material)

I plan to do the trim like you did abive in checkerd, except with the same stuff
i'm using for the headliner, and maybe a few other parts. I was thinking the armrest,
    radio trim, and A pillars.

I gotta get resin and stuff though. Never used it before...

    Re: Custom Headliner!

I bought my headliner fabric at Hancocks. Its not real suede its called butter suede. You want to find a material that has 2 way stretch or 4 way stretch. It has to be thick but not to thick you want the glue to hold it up. If you want to do everything, headliner, sunroof slider, all the pillars, and rear decklid you should get atleast 5.5 yards. Also make sure the material is atleast 54"s wide.

On a scale of 1-10 in difficulty, I give the pillars 3 and the headliner a 10.

I spent a total of $40 dollars on everything, material and glue. Most Hancocks are going out of business so the butter suede was 30% off.

A bump from the dead, but, I am wondering, how hard was it to wrap the upper B-pillars? Are the vents still open for the interior monitor? Do the seat belt adjusters move?

B pillars aren't to bad. The vents may or may not work, I haven't tested them. You can remove the seatbelt slider, but take your time and pay attention how you get it out, getting it back in isn't very fun.
