My Eaton M90 supercharged 30v 2.8 project (I need help snout hunting!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So as things are falling into place I thought I would start a thread on my project. I am using the Eaton M90 from a Cougar XR-7 or Supercoupe. I am mocking the G1 supercharger side mount setup. I will start on a G1 PES tune (or maybe its GIAC that makes it I don't remember) and be keeping it at around 8 psi just so I don't melt a piston or valve. I do plan to make this into a reproducible kit as the 2.8 market is just sad right now and it really isn't a bad platform. I plan on using a Zeitronix ZT-2 w/ Wideband, EGT, and Boost all in one as well as a logger to keep an eye on whats happening and to take advantage of its over boosting, over temp, and too lean warnings. So far my stumbling block has been the snout on the supercharger bieng too long. I have found a source for a shorter one and I am awaiting info on how much it's gonna set me back... I am a little worried about the price as I really don't have much money and my goal was to have this done for under 1k. Which most will not be able to replicate as I got the supercharger free and several other parts donated. Also will be using bent exhaust tubing for the FMIC tubing as its cheap and I can get it bent for a good deal as I have some good hook ups.

Alright I'll get to some pictures now haha.

If you are short on cash then how do you plan to pay to tune this thing?

I will keep it on a G1 tune at first controlling the boost to 8 psi or so. I already have the ecu lined up for 200 bux.

When it's done you'll have to come down to Indiana for car's and coffee or something. It's usually in Indy but we could probably arrange one in Valporaiso or Merriville.

Ya I am really worried about turbulence.... lol. I have a feeling the flow is going to be just fine for now. Once I know exactly what I need I can probably have mandrel bent piping made later on down the road.

Shop bought the RX-8 to sell it when we were trying start sales. Then the economy hit and we quit that addition.

I will be getting it from 4rings. Before I do anything w/ the project I am waiting on actually getting the shorter snout. It's gonna make or break the project so I just hope it doesn't cost too much. Fortunately I will be doing 2 timing belts this next weekend for some side cash that will help me pay for the project. I can do timing belts and suspension on all B5's w/ no problems so if your local and need it done let me know.

Shameless pic whoring to show what car its going into.

don't tell me i didn't warn you about it being too long lol. i think it'll fit fine if you cut part of the sheet metal. i'm trying to figure out why you have so many hoses right behind the SC. i must be going nuts but i don't think mine has the hoses farther down the engine bay. you might have to get rid of that beauty cover to mount the SC better though. anyways, hurry up you slow turd

Nic, I found some piping that might work for you in an old box. What size are you wanting????? You'll either have to weld it of or get couplers....well, you'll need those regardless...

I'm assuming that the intake mani from a G2 kit won't fit that M90. Are there other obstacles to mounting it on top? (i.e, too big for a stock hood?)

I'm just curious, since it seems you're going to have a beast of a time getting that to fit behind your headlight.

Also, better response comes from having the throttle body mounted closer to the intake mani, right?

Well I will be running the normal G1-G2 levels till I can afford pistons and a head build. So about 200-220 AWHP or close to 300 crank. 4rings was running 236 AWHP before he melted a piston and that was a G1 w/ the G1 tune.

Good luck with this one - non-S4 V6's do need to be shown some love in the power department.

I was gettin quite a bit of shit from the S4 guys in chat earlier today... My engine is not "modworthy" or capable of power I guess.... I wonder why they are all asking me for my cam's? And if the S4 shares the same block and I have the same rod's. Then explain why I can't do a light build for stage 2 power levels? Just some mild venting sorry lol.

If you aren't able to find a shorter snout, then you could always cut into your radiator support to give you the clearance you'll need up front. Not sure how you're going to manage the headlight situation; with the way my G1 sits now, there isn't much clearance as it is, and you're running a bigger charger

The problem is how far back it pushes it. I can only have it in 1 position up front. It's kinda shoved into the shock tower as it sits in the pix. While I could maybe make it fit every time I shift it would be hitting the body lol.

What about lifting it up a bit and moving it closer to the valve cover? That should open up a little more space in the back.

I am thinking of trying that or even maybe lower down. Not sure I can actually go any higher though. I almost considered doing the raised hood like on a Talon.. yikes... Current idea is vented hood to make about an inch clearance more up top.

Re: My Eaton M90 supercharged 30v 2.8 project

Well I've got a small update. I got a hold of Charles Warner at www.magnumpowers.com and he is able to make me a shorter snout and says he may also be interested in developing a kit for the 2.8 and the M90 supercharger. Mainly its going to depend on the market and how many 2.8 guys out there would be willing to fork out some cash for a supercharger that is capable of plenty of power just depending on how much you want to go into building your engine. He linked me to this

Which is a kit he worked w/ someone to make for a honda making close to 500whp lol. I guess we will see what happens. I am keeping my hopes up of having a supercharged 2.8 soon though!

I cut the shit out of the back of my headlight to fit my filter in, not a bit of moisture after a year of DDing and all the New England weather...

I'm definitely going to be keeping my eye on this project. I was planning on getting a pes g2 kit this winter, but this might be a good alternative.

Good work! That would be fantastic. Even without modifying internals, an M90 could make more power than an M62 thanks to lower intake temps. Plus, if he gets a side mounted kit together, a la G1, there's an option to intercool.
