    Sedans with Roof Boxes?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been searching through older threads trying to find B6 sedans with roof boxes but can only find Avants. After ordering my suspension I plan on ordering a Thule 603 Ascent 1500 box. Does anyone run a box or know of pictures? Trying to get some ideas. Thanks for any help.

interested in this too. No sure about wind noise on the box vs the racks. I would think the box would be quieter being more aerodynamic but its bigger so don't know if that's a factor

I have the Thule rack and without the fairing it was howling and noisy. With fairing it's fine and I have a Thule Ascend box on top w/Yakima Powder Hound 6. Setup is good for 4 boards on the Powder Hound and 2-3 in the box, it's kind of narrow. My old Yakima Pro 18 box held like 4-6 snowboards., tried to put it on, but couldn't get the mounting claws close enough, so back it went on the Xterra. I'll try to take some better pics when I get a moment.

Totally different vehicle thought: I have the Yakima load warrior setup on my wife's CRV. With the fairing, noise is minimal and mileage suffers by about 1 mpg. I do notice the side and head winds.

Found this in the "Show Me Your Box Thread". This is a Thule Atlantis 1800. I really dig the lines, wonder if the Atlantis 1200 would look more proportional on a B6 A4 Sedan since it wouldn't be as long.

The box on my car is actually an 1800, not a 1600 as I initially stated. I fit all my skis in it without an issue...including my 189 hellbents (measure 195-196), and 195 motherships...so most skis will fit. As far as the 1200 compared to the 1800, the 1200 is only 3.5" shorter, although it is much skinnier. If you need the space go with the 1800. If you don't need the space you should be able to fit atleast 5 pairs of skis in the 1200 unless you are rocking 5 pairs of fat boards. I've had both and I will never go back to the smaller box, I always have room with the 1800.

Took these pics as it was getting dark the other day so they are not the best:

This is just an old thule box I picked up for cheap off craigslist to run on the Touareg. I put blizzaks on my avus wheels this year and figured I might as well throw it on the B6.

The max ski length that fits in the 1600 is a 183 or maybe a 184, and that is diagonally. If you ski anything near that long get the 1800.

Yes, my largest snowboard is a 154. I wish Thule would ship to the States. Because all we get are the options of 1800, 1600 or 1200. Over there they make the same models in sizes all the way down to a 200. I would love to get my hands on a Atlantis 600 (perfect size for me) http://www.thule.com/en/BG/Products/...tis%20600.aspx

I am not 100% sure but from googling both it appears its an older 1800. All I know is its gigantic, kinda ugly and I only paid $100 for it picked up locally.

Bump, I'm in the market for a box, REI has the 20% off labor day sale so now is a good time to pick one up. I'm leaning towards the yakima skybox 16s, but the thule ascent 1600 is a good price too.

Just want to see some more pics before I decide.

Ordered a Thule 1600 today... Pictures will be posted on AZ once installed. I have a feeling most will hate but a few will find a box on a sedan sick looking.

whats the MPG difference between running ski's or snowboards on the rack vs in a box?

I'm sure the difference is small. Once you throw anything on the roof it kills the MPG. The advantages of running a roof box over just ski racks outweighs the MPG difference, trust me.
I ran Whispbar/ Thule 1600 box, averaged 27MPG on a 14 hour nonstop highway trip.

    Miss my roof set-up.
