Not all dealerships are out to get you. I have nothing but good things to say about the Acura dealership I've been visiting over the last 11 years.

How would an egr valve have to do with misfires though, i don't think they can be related.

I just think that if it had something to do with the boost levels dropping then that means the DV was bad... in that case - he could have got that new OEM revision for like 100 bucks or whatever and put it in himself... instead of a 300 dollar expense!!

That cost is a DV with a 1 hour install and a diagnostic fee. A cylinder misfire is not a typical dv code, especially one that doesn't move. As long as he got the latest rev dv, I'd be bummed but happy it wasn't worse.

Drawing back from memory way long ago, so take it with a grain of salt.

The EGR recirculates hot exhaust gases back into the intake, which will increase the temp of the intake air, and slightly alters the A/F ratio. Anything that tampers in that area at least has the potential to cause misfires. If for example it could overly lean the mixture, you could be getting pre-ignition... Possibly detected as a misfire?

Its a emissions thing, and we old school car buffs use to take our EGRs apart and seal them with copper gaskets and remounted them (hid the fact they were tampered with) for an extra pony or two.

Hell, I haven't even looked at the Audi to know if we even HAVE an EGR....
When the OP said "recirculation valve" I just made the mental connection to the problem and though to myself that it could certainly fit the symptoms, that's all...

    EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Typically will trip a code that says "EGR malfunction" or something similar. Never seen one cause a misfire but i suppose its possible.

I just put 100 miles on it, and no new code no new issues, Maybe I overpaid but I couldent figure it out and they did. I never would have guessed recirculation valve so I say $ well spent

So you aren't going to fill us in on which 'recirculation' valve was replaced? Was it the exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR), or the boost recirculation valve (DV)? This would be good to know. If you don't know, look at the receipt and write down the part number.

I'm going thru the same problem. I've had my valves cleaned, changed plugs and changed out my cam follower. Waiting on getting a new injector(#3). Would like to know which of the ^ is the right one.

Its the turbo recirculation valve aka dirverter valve aka n249 aka blow off valve aka pssssshhhh noise.

Audi quit using an actual EGR valve around 1998. So good luck finding it on your B7's.

I was going to say the same thing, all these people talking about EGR and have no idea our cars don't even have it.

I was pretty sure VAG phased out EGR on everything when they went OBD-II, everything except TDI... and of course i'm talking NA domestic market, some countries have really weird engine options.

Glad you got the issue fixed!

you guys state the price of the part, and how this guy over paid. what would make him be drawn to replace the popper part? they get paid to be able to diagnose, not just sling parts out of a parts cannon at it. that would be far more money than this. smart bringing it to the experts.

I am having a similar problem, missfires but random on various cylinders.

My mechanic said he will make a smoke test to see whats the problem. He thinks the engine is sucking more air and he will check the electonic valve
