How many of you have the New Jersey 'Law Enforcement - Price of Honor' license plates? If so, how many of you have or think you have gotten a free pass b/c of these plates? How many of you are thinking about getting them? Just wondering what the thinking is around these as a ticket deterrent, b/c I've been seeing a lot of these plates on modded cars lately.

Not that I don't believe you, but how would you know working at the DMV about the number of times that people get pulled over versus ticketed.

I would think this would be a case by case thing, where nobody but the cop and the driver would know why he/she was let off.

well, we've had only one success story thus far, correct? a quick Google search will show you not many success stories across other car forums either.

Secondly, i know a handful of police officers outside of work who told me that it doesn't really matter what your plate says..FOP some offers cut you a break, others really could give a shit pending on the situation.

I'm just trying to save people the $100, may not be alot to you but to some people it is. my theory is if your driving like an asshole you should be pulled over

Anybody else have these? It seems like the majority want them and think they'll help get them out of a ticket. Just wondering if there are any more real world examples of whether or not it is likely to get you out of a ticket.

My friend has fireman plates and he gets out of stuff all of the time. It seems like its once a month at least that he gets pulled over and they just let him go with nothing.

I have the plates, and I think they have helped when I was pulled over. But I did get a ticket with them just once... and it was not my fault cop pulled me over instead of my friend that was actually speeding (67 in a 50).

Re: NJ 'Law Enforcement' - 'Price of Honor' Plates

For those of you that have 'em, do the cops ever ask you why you have 'em? Do you make up some story about how you love and respect police or that you had a relative that was killed in the line of duty?

I would think that after a while cops would see all of these young guys using them as a get out of jail free and it would lose its effectiveness.

I got them because I think they look good. It really depends on the cop. Some of my cop friends say it makes it seem like you are trying to get out of something. Some say that they don't care. I have never had a cop tell me it would get me out of a ticket. I have asked at least 10 of my cop friends.

Re: NJ 'Law Enforcement' - 'Price of Honor' Plates

My aunt and uncle were both cops, so I was lucky enough to have the PBA card and now the badge since they retired, which has definitely helped me several times, but as far as the plates go.... eh, I'd think they'd only help so much. Maybe if you didn't stop fully at a stop sign, or just ran a red, or were going 10-15 over then maybe it might help a bit, but don't expect anything more than an occasional courtesy on a minor violation

Re: NJ 'Law Enforcement' - 'Price of Honor' Plates

The plates are great! I was out the other night and not paying attention, as usual. A couple were crossing the street and I accidentally ran over the woman. Turns out the man was an off duty cop, and boy he was pissed... That is until he saw my POH plates, then he just grinned and sort of shook his head as if to say, "Oh you crazy guy!" and wished me a good evening. ...True story...

i have my purple heart plates on my car, but before that had the POH ones on, and still got pulled over. with the purple heart ones, never had any issues, they just ask how I got them, they respect that and move on to more pressing business..knock on wood.

So does having the badge/shield on your car help more in comparison to these plates?

I wonder why those who have badge/shield or plate drive like idiots.
