Can I get a switchblade Key for my Audi?

I read in a search that VW will grind me a replacement key for a fraction of what an Audi dealer will do it for. So is it only a matter of buying a switchable blank and having them grind it, or can I take my existing key and convert it to a switch?

Does your car have keyless entry?

Without the central locking system, the switchblade remote won't work.

If you do have central locking you could buy a switchblade remote on Ebay with a blank in it and get a local VW parts couter to cut it to match your current key.

It does have remote entry through the FOB. IS there a chip on these keys as well?
I looked on ebay just now, no switchable blanks this week.. i'll have to wait on that. Just with the FOB and the key there is a large mass in my pocket now with these keys :)

I'm not sure if the 96-97 cars will work with the switchblade or not. I'd hate for you to buy a switchblade and not be able to program it.

Did you program yours to lock/unlock the doors?

The switchblade would still have the separate key fob though right? So I'd use my original key FOB to unlock. The key should unlock and start no matter what if there is no chip in the key.

I have a 97 and the one I bought off ebay works fine. Just gotta make sure it's the 2 button switchblade. It's so much better to have one remote with the key folded in rather than have a remote and seperate key.
Do a search on ebay for lemonpro. That's who I bought mine from. Got it in the mail just 2 days after ordering it.

Is yours a 97? You won't need the original remote. I just searched on ebay and found the guy that I bought mine from. Here's the link:

That's just a picture of one of them. The one I got from him looks brand new. Not one scratch or fade on it.
