Werd. When i had to have my windsheild replaced on my previous car which was insured by AAA, I had to pay my deductible, and when my wife and I replaced the windshield on her car which is insured through Mercury, we paid the deductible as well.
I can't think of ANY time where you wouldn't pay the deductible other than if you are in an accident and aren't at fault (I've been in this situation and AAA refunded my deductible after they received the police report stating I wasn't at fault). Another situation would be if it's an item falls under comprehensive, they find the person taht did the damage to your car, take them to court and win. Other than that, the deductible will always need to be paid.
Here's a story about my previous car. 3 months after purchasing the car the windsheild got cracked. I had a $100 deductible, insurance wanted to put in aftermarket glass. I said hell no to that. Factory glass ran $650. Many say that aftermarket glass is fine, and in most cases I would probably choose that as well. That's what we put in my wife's car because her car is old. But IMO, aftermarket glass isn't always cut properly and the slightest variation in window size can leave gaps in where it's sealed. My advice, if you're paying for the low deductible, get your money's worth and get factory glass.
