Cut bump stops on coilovers??

My ST coils just arrived today and have seen in a couple threads of ppl cutting down their bump stops...is this nessecary? i mean i dont plan on being silly low but should i still do this...if so how much?

Its best to cut the bump stops. The stasis (koni) coilovers i had for my S4 said right in the instructions to cutt at least 1/2 of it off. I never bottomed out so i guess it worked pretty well.

If you cut them don't cut them too short. You're always better off bottoming on the bump stops then bottoming out the shock piston.

The ST's have reasonably stiff springs so if you aren't dumping it then you shouldn't ever bottom out.

so, you all might not like this but remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder and each person does things to their likings. so with that said, i plan on going stupid low. like 3-4" of the ground low, how much bump stop would i have to cut off?

I'm around 3 inches right now maybe a tad more on the STs and have yet to bottom out.. without any cutting of the bump stops

well, my car is 22.5" ground to fender, and i have 35 series tires, so comfortable is a relative term.. but i would say that my car rides pretty good for as low as it is

i just used a hacksaw to cut mine, they are only a soft foam

I used a table saw to cut the straight part off of mine (~1/2")... wouldn't recommend the table saw, it was a little sketch. It worked though!

I put them in the vise just tight enough to hold them and then use a sharp knife (long bread knife) to slice across the tops of the vise jaws. Just set them up and cut them up. Be sure to look at which end goes into the upper strut perch before cutting.

Hmm, I feel like I hit them occasionally but my suspension is rather stiff at the same time. For as low as I am 24.5" gtf I have never rubbed on the street or even after 3 track events.

so how do i get the black boot off my front bumpstops on the ST coils?....they are in the groove pretty good and dont want to crack the plastic.

Pull, twist, and pry. A little lubrication helps.
