    Speaker Replacement Size - B5 A4 Avant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I've done quite a bit of searching and come up with some conflicting information. Basically, I am looking to replace my two front door speakers. I am looking to install two-way coaxials rather than a component system (and leave the stock tweeters in place).

So my question is: what size speaker will be the right fit for the front doors of my B5 A4 Avant? There is information that states it is a 4-inch and also that it is a 5.25-inch fit... I want to do the least amount of cutting/modifying so which is the better match is fine. Also, if anyone has info on the rear door speaker size, I'd appreciate that as well.

    Thanks!

5.25 fit pretty well. Are you using a set of components or a full range speaker?

I was going to use the two-way Infinity Reference series (either 4- or 5.25-inch) co-axials... and just leave the stock tweeters in place. I know this leaves me with "extra" tweeters, but oh well. Best Buy and the Pioneer website both tell me that 5.25-inch is the way to go, but I read in multiple places, that 4-inch was the best fit.

yeah 4 inch will fit better without a question, but why not get the bigger speaker if you can still fit it without trouble?

Your car will sound better with a proper 4" mounted, than having a larger 5.25" just hanging without a baffle. You have to use strip caulking/sealant to seal the edges of the 5.25" (or other side) driver, otherwise it will sound very empty and bottom out...even in a IB/Free-Air environment, this is very important.

OK, for the fronts gonna get the 5.25-in speaker adaptor here:

    http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...oducts_id=1883

It's under $40 including shipping from the UK. Hopefully, that'll give me a good, snug fit, with minimal hassles.

Still unsure about the rear door speaker size... anyone??? I have a 2000 A4 Avant (non-Bose Symphony system). Guess I should just get in there and look, but if anyone knows, please let me know what size will work... can't find adaptors for the rear doors, so I'm thinking it'll be a 5.25-inch fit with the original baffle/OEM adaptor, but I'm not sure.

is that for both sides? Is it really necessary to get best performance and reliability by having a 5.25 in the front? Is this for sedan to?

Yes, that's for two adaptors (both sides). I was hoping to get bigger/better sound with the 5.25's (as opposed to using the 4's), hence my decision to go that route. Plus, the Infinity Reference series costs the same on amazon.com for both the 4's and the 5.25's... why not go for it? As the title of the post states, I have an Avant, not a sedan.

I know this is a very old thread but I just made the mistake of buying 4" and 5.25" speakers for my B5 Avant (non-bose) based on info I had found on forums and such.
The front 4"s kind of fit (marginally too small for the original speakers surround) but the rear door speakers look to be 6.5"...
Guess I'll use the 5.25" up front and find some suitable 6.5" for the rear.
