How do you remove the hood strut?

Just did this on my A6...

It depends on the mechanism that clamps it on. If you're replacing, the new one should have instructions on what to do to put it on. Just do those backwards. I had to use a mini flat-head to fit between the ball of the strut and the metal clamp that keeps it locked in. Just prying it out gave plenty of room to remove the strut from it's stud.

It's very easy, you shouldn't have a problem.

i need to remove it cuz a new hood. can i straight up swap it or do i need a new one?

If it's not broken, you should be able to just swap it.

take a flat head, pop the clip off the strut, then it'll make sense

make sure once you remove the strut you are aware of the hood's weight.

the stock hood strut is too strong for the carbon fiber hoods. Your also going to need to get rid of the stock hood latch and replace it with hood pins.

Like ngng said, use a flat head screwdriver to pop off the the little metal clips on each end of the strut. They wont come all the way off, they will just slide back, releasing pressure to pop it off. Pretty easy to do.

thanks for the reply guys. i ended up jus poppin off the strut and simply swapped hoods. i removed the strut completely but retained the hood latch. been done more than a month ago =D

Alright, so I'm about to install a Vorsteiner, but wanted to make sure I've got it all figured out.

I'll remove the hood strut...what are the best alternative that people have found? I've seen JetJockey and others with a strut, is it aftermarket?

Quattro et al have used Vorstiner's without hood pins, opting for the original latch. Why would a eurogear hood need it and not vorsteiner?

Any other things to look out for when installing?

Thanks all for your opinions, can't wait to get it on.
(Btw i'm going raw until I have time to get it painted in Feb)
