    B7 S4 DTM?

A local dealership has a 2007 S4 DTM for sale. I was wondering what is different between this and a regular S4. I just noticed the CF trim inside and the CF lip on the front bumper.

    DTM

    Reg

CF interior trim can be had on either model.
DTM is simply exterior...Front and rear bumpers.

    Re: B7 S4 DTM?

DTM implies Carbon Fiber interior trim.

As well as the front and rear CF spoilers and bumpers. The door blades are also different, much smaller. Smaller than the A4 S-Line blades even but they are still there. Finally, the front grille is the "black optic" grille.

Very worth it in my opinion for all of that. Much more aggressive looking, sans the door blades.

    Re: B7 S4 DTM?

the front grille is what black what? naah, it's just a regular base model A4 grill. Personally I think the front end of the DTM is a mess:

    • diagonal diamond mesh on the fog grills (oh, and no fog lights)
    • normal base A4 grill with vertical/horizantal grid (oh, and no S4 logo??)
    • taller skinnier three vent holes in the centre lower part of the front bumper which look less aggressive/good than the wider narrower ones in the S4/RS4 bumper

I love the fake brake vents behind the rear wheels and the non-functioning semi RS4 like vents in front of the fronts...those look nice and aggressive, but the rest? naah. It's a mish-mash.

    It's the A4 DTM body...and I don't likey. flamesuit: ON

I actually agree with this. I have a couple friends who have said it just doesn't do it for them either. The wheels that come with them are awful too imo. But different strokes.

maybe the rear bumper with an rs4 front bumper would look pretty neat. because it is the DTM rear that has that sweet diffuser, right?

The non-functionality of the side scoops sucks but it looks bad ass. To each, their own. But you certainly won't find that grille on an A4. The design might be the same but it has a glossy black finish that looks worlds better than any plain plastic A4 grille.

OH NOES! No S4 logo?! Crap, I totally bought my car for the R badge.

I'm not a fan of the DTM kit either. I think 90% of ppl on here like it and 10% don't. Well, I do like the DTM rear bumper, just not the front.

I said I love the side scoops...front and back. They look better on the RS4 but both look good. I just don't like the mish mash of styles...diamond mesh, but regular grill. While it is finished differently, it still kind of puts me to sleep.

Here...go outside and check the front of your RS4 then look at a pic of the Sport Package S4 (not called DTM) and you'll see what I mean...the RS4 is so clean and matched up nicely.

p.s. if you didn't buy your car for the badge, how come you haven't debadged it then

    Re: B7 S4 DTM?

One thing for sure, the DTM S4 looks more aggressive than a regular S4 and it puts a little more distinction btwn the A4 and the S4. Of course this is all opinion and we are all entitled to our own. I happen to LOVE the DTM look more than the regular S4, so I bought one. Make sense? I do agree that the grill would look much better if it had the criss cross pattern, but it still looks good with the horizontal lines, and yes, it has a black finish that the A4 non-sline grill does not. The DTM wheels don't look anymore special than the regular S4 wheels, but I do like the silver "Ti" wheels that mine came with. As far as it not being exciting, I personally find it a bit more exciting than a regular S4. Either way, I love them both, I just love mine a little bit more.

the funny thing about that is that this S4 Sport Package kit was the old A4 DTM kit...so it's kind of the opposite. That's why everyone calls it the 'DTM' even though it was actually called sport package...because it was the DTM, back when it was on the A4. It looks awesome from behind...carbon lip, tough looking rear valence and those vents just rock.

Yeah, but the DTM A4 isn't available here. The DTM A4 also had a performance boost to its engine iirc (didn't check your link). I'm glad they never gave the A4 the DTM package here. The Sline is good enough. It gives buyers more incentive to get the S4 for more than just the engine underneith. Take for example the M3 vs the 3 series. Instantly recognizable, much like the RS4 and the A4.

FYI Fly300kts made a DTM grill out of an RS4 grill with some cutting and glueing:

I'm a pretty big fan of the DTM package, haha...sure, no fogs stock, so add them in. Yes, the grille is the same size as the A4 grille...but the color is very different. And no S4 badge...so what? 3/4 of the people on here denbadge the back of their cars...why only badge the front? Not to mention, you hardly EVER see the DTM package around town. So ya, I love it! But like it was said, to each their own

Oh, and it doesn't have the different shift knob if it's a base DTM...only if it's the 25th Anniversary Edition, and that has a few other changes.

Ah, the indie-rock rationale. Though, I don't believe I'd like Audis any less if the numbers were reversed. I'd just think people have some damn fine taste in automobiles.

    Re: B7 S4 DTM?

I live in LA, and I see S4s all over the place...

to see a Sport Pkg (DTM) S4, it's very rare, unless I'm looking at my car. Frankly, I find the regular S4 a little too boring, and the Sport Pkg a bit more aggressive. Sure you don't get any fog lights, but that's price you pay for that extra aggressiveness...or you could get these:

    http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288506

MrPerfect, you're wrong about the interior trim being CF. That's not what the Sport package entails. It has nothing to do with the interior. In fact, it's called the Exterior Sport Package (Gmbh).

As for the badging, the kit was made for the DTM kit across the pond, and thus the quattro badge stays. Also, the first time the kit was on an S4 was for the 25th anniversary of Quattro. So it was meant to be on the grill for that model, as it was celebrating the 25 years of Quattro. in all honesty, if you really care about the cheap piece of plastic that's on the outside of your car...you need to...well, I won't go there. I bought my car for what's under the hood, not the crappy piece of cheap plastic that's glued onto the outside of my car.

if you look at the DTM front and the RS4 bumper, you can clearly see that design quese were taken from the DTM front bumper for the RS4 front bumper.
    Those are my thoughts. Enjoy!

    It's the A4 DTM body...and I don't likey. flamesuit: ON
You know what.... I agree. I could live without the fog lights though because on my B7 I think I used them twice.. if they came on automatically with the auto headlights, then I would have changed them out for a nice white bulb and had them on just because... because it was never worth turning my headlights on all the time just for them... so I think that's ok. If the kit used the sline/s4/rs4 sized grille, then it'd be ok because of two things - 1. I'd put an RS4 grille in to match the mesh on the fog-less area... and 2. It'd make that less agressive gap you and I both hate - the same size as the regular S4 bumper..... and there you go, it wouldn't be such a mish-mash then.

...All I can say is that when I originally saw this kit in 2005... I thought, DAMN, that's an awesome A4 kit..... and after reading your comment I thought about it and that's just it. It'd be THE coolest kit for someones A4..... but not for the S4. I'll even go further in saying that Audi using the DTM kit for the 25th anniversary quattro s4 was ridiculous, especailly since at the time it was just released as the A4 kit in Europe... nothing says "special" and "limited" as making a better, more special car - with a kit that was already used.... and better yet, on a lesser car. Then to top it all off, they kinda ruin that exclusivity by offering that body kit the next year as just an add on option to any color S4....... ah, it's just a car I guess...

What if instead of putting the kit on the S4 they just released another A4 DTM here in the US? For us that wanted an S4 we might cry foul. I see it as a step up, where here in the US we get to enjoy the DTM kit on an S4 rather than a tuned A4. Also, like sak pointed out, it's not called the DTM kit here. I guess Audi figured that we know little about DTM (the German racing series) so calling it DTM would mean little here, as opposed to in Europe where the Audis that compete in the DTM series are "badged" as A4s. The "Sport Package" designation here in the US is more appropriate, and they commemorated it with a 25th Anniversary Edition. And while the DTM S4 rear, exhaust, wheels, and interior is different than the A4 DTM and 25Quattro I do agree that making it available as an upgraded Sport Package to later B7 S4s compromised the exclusivity of the 25Quattro a little bit. However, I don't think the DTM S4 owers here on AZ mind that at all!

As far as the grill, I'm on the fence. I actually like the aggressive gap under the grill better than the sline/S4/RS4. I also don't think that the vertical lines clash that much with the RS4 type mesh on the lower vents. From a design standpoint, it prevents visual overkill of the pattern, in which the vertical lines keep the trademark Audi grill visually distinctive from the more "raw" looking vents underneath. In other words, too much of the same look is not always better. Distinction and contrast is still a pleasing style element, and not everything has to match. I do like the look of all RS4 type mesh in the front, but I also like the look it has now.

    Re: B7 S4 DTM?

Joe... of course everyone is going to have a different opinion. Yes, if they offered the DTM A4 here and they only offered the base S4, that certainly would've sucked more.... I'll give you that. What my complaint is... is I think Audi should've done something a bit more for the 25 quattro model, especailly for the what, $8k premium for the model.... There wasn't enough different... and when it comes to resale, I don't see many getting a lot more for the package because of it's "exclusivity".... so I just think they could've done more. When it comes down to it, for that package.... it was all a bin of parts already available inside and out.. Then they ruin even that quazi-exclusivity by offering the DTM kit the following year on any car... I'm not sold on the "different color" but same A4 grille being a deciding factor, but I think my complaint to Audi on the DTM kit itself is that it's offered in Europe on the A4... period. If it was a European S4 DTM kit, then that would be another story. I think though to actually call it a "DTM" kit, Audi should've looked at their DTM race cars... and look at what Benz is offering with their "DTM" kitted models...

    two words: vented fenders.

Now, in the case of wider vented fenders.... I would honestly say some form of this kit then would have been better suited and awesome on the RS4 "DTM"... I know the RS4 is special enough, but what if they offered that for the last year of the B7.... The more I think about it, the more I think Audi dropped the balls.... between designing and making it an A4 kit in Europe... to calling it "DTM" and yet being kind of blah for what represents such a cool race car.... to putting it on the "special" and "limited" 25 quattro...

...to each their own.. I just think Audi saw it as a way to easily get more money in their pockets and if I have to end it just talking about the grille...... there's a reason the S4 and RS4 got a grille that was 2" longer towards the ground.... Audi felt it was more aggressive. When the B7's came out, there was no mistaking that the S4 was more aggressive than the base A4, but let's face it the S4 is designed to almost be the "sleeper"... so it's cues are slight... the bumper really didn't affect the look THAT much and from the front you really couldn't tell the drop in the suspension... It was all the height of the grille....

I'm a big fan of whatever s4dtm says! No really, I was somewhat disappointed when I discovered my sled didn't come with fogs, I got over it and made the changes everywhere else.
