    Squeaking noise while turning left

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a screeching/squeaking noise while turning left. While moving very slowly and cutting the wheel all the way, the noise is constant and is coming from the right front wheel. While moving quickly and turning left the sound is on a repetitive basis and is not nearly as loud when moving slow. The sound is faint while going in a straight line like something is barely scraping against a piece of metal.

The first thing that came to mind is a wheel bearing but I have no vibes and the wheel doesnt have any play. I also thought it may be due to the breaks but the sound doesnt change when the brakes are applied.

Thoguhts? Could it still be the wheel bearing? Kind of embarassing having this thing squeak like an old Buick.

if its a wheel bearing the noise will adjust to your speed... would also be heard when going straight im thinking.

I had a similar problem and found out it was my coilovers needed to be re-adjusted and re-greased after that it was fine. Good Luck.

one of my control arm is making the same noise. have you tried lifting your front end up, removing the wheel, and sticking your head in there to pin point where it's coming from, while someone moves the steering wheel back and forth?

Its definitely a sound that seems to occur when the wheel is rotating which leads me to believe that it isnt associated with the Control arm unless the control arm is somehow rubbing against the caliper which I highly doubt...

Re: Squeaking noise while turning left

Here's my take per your symptoms...

When turning left, your car dives right putting pressures and stress/strain to right-front side and since the screeching is more apparent going slower, I would check out your front-right sway bar bracket/bushing.

This needs routine maintenace and lubing.
This is very easy to check when you remove the skid cover.

I know when I upgraded to my Hotchkis Sway Bars, the brackets had zirc fittings to facilitate rountine lubing.

In fact, after learning on my B6/A4, that w/that same setup and lowered on CO's, I had busted off the Zircs....
So this time around, I removed the Zircs and replaced them w/a stubby allen bolt. I still get the, once every so ofter scrapage but the allen stays intact. When it's time to lub (basically done at oil changes, cause I'm dn there), I just reattach the Zircs, lub and replace back w/the allen bolt.

Not sure what setup you have but I would bet it's the non-lubricated sway/bushing contact that is screeching.

If not, it's worth the lub.
    Hope this helps.

for some reason H&R coilovers have this issue after a certain miles according to my mechanic so he took it out and put it back in and re-greased it.

What exactly needs regreasing though? THere arent any grease points on a coilover and I cant think I have ever put grease on any coilovers I have installed?

Re: Squeaking noise while turning left

Ok so the sway bar is all tight. Im still stumped. It definitely sounds like it has to do with driveline components because the sound is in a rotational pattern and not a random squeal/squeak. I jacked the car up and the wheel didnt budge when I tugged on the top and bottom which leads me to believe the bearing is still good. Also, when holding onto the springs and turning the wheel, they didnt present any vibrations.

This is so annoying because it gets very loud when I am going slow and cutting the wheel hard like pulling into a parking spot. So embarassing.

My S4 was making a similar noise for a couple weeks, but louder when I turned to the right. If I was going slow and went over a bump, dip, or sidewalk, then it sounded kinda like a squeaky bed frame.

I mentioned it when I took it in for the 55K service but the technician couldn't hear the noise, so when I picked it up we drove it together and then he heard it. He didn't know exactly what is was, but didn't think it was a safety issue so said just bring it back. But about a week later it stopped doing it, I haven't heard it for about 3 weeks.

Wanna hear some shit?- I had this squeaking noise coming from the rear of my S. EVERY TIME I'd hit a even a minor bump, squeak-squeak.. thought it might've been the CO'S or even the rear sway bar, but I COULD NOT pinpoint the exact location of the f*** squeak!
Last week I'm cleaning/condition the rear seats, I go to wipe down one of the head rests and what do I hear, the same damn squeak that I've been hearing since I got the car! I shook the head rest and sure enough the metal rod connecting the head rest to the seat was the culprit. Pulled out the head rest wiped it down with a minimal amount of WD40 all gone. Not saying that's what you're hearing... just saying who knows what it can be sometimes

i got the SAME exact noise when i turn left. What it really SOUNDS like is the shield behind the rotor rubbing on the rotor itself.
I will be taking it in to the dealership to get an alignment soon so I will have them check it out as well.

Re: Squeaking noise while turning left

I have the same problem. It's like a metal on metal rub when I turn left at low speed and occasionally when turning right. It's driving me crazy. Sounds like my car is f'ed up. I drive an S4 for crying out loud and yes superavant it's embarassing as hell when I pull in to park my car at work each morning. Dealership checked but didn't find anything. I think they don't want to disclose it since the car is still under warranty and they would have to fix it. I will post back if I find a solution. Guys please kindly keep us up to date with any solution. Thank you.

hmmmm. Had you noticed this sound prior? What is your experience with quattro?

    Wheel bearing is not to noticeable at low speeds, but VERY noticeable at high speeds. Wheel bearings usually sound like a low frequency hum.;

Thought I might update this thread as I remember I found the culprit to be the dust shield around the rotor was bent into the rotor causing contact.

Bumping this. I get a creak when on brakes and making parking lot turns to the right only. Is there validity in the dust shield? It makes sense to me. What should I be looking for exactly? Ive never been able to pinpoint this noise....

I know its not old rotors/pads (although I do need them) because this noise has persisted through my last brake change. Thoughts?

Read this on a mustang forum, talks about it hitting suspension components when wheel is cranked/dust shield is bent.
