    widowmaker oem jack.....>_< arrghhh

ok ive heard all the horror stories about the shitty oem jack that seems to be made from tin foil and balsa wood buuuuut i figured i would just jack my car up anyway...and of course as im lifting the car it begins to lean...and BLAM it falls over leaving a nice mark on the underbelly...yay

ANYWAY! i bought a nice sturdy trolley jack like this one (http://www.toolstation.com/images/li...bbig/12136.jpg) but noticed that the contact point of the jack is just going to bend the hell out of the little ridge that the stock jack fits onto... and there isnt an obvious other area to put the jack... i read around and read that some people use the frame... but the underbelly of the car is covered in plastic....so where exactly is this spot? i just wanna lift my car up! :*(*** pictures or just a good description would be appreciated, thanks...

Day 1 of owning my Audi I found the widow maker and couldn't figure out for the life of me how to use it. So I threw it away and put my Honda jack in the trunk instead.

The spot should be about 6 inches back, behind the front wheels.

You could buy a jack pad to go into the lifting cup or put a 2x4 between the jack and car, if height permits. EDIT, beat to it.

I'm surprised Audi hasn't issued a recall or something on the jack. I was surprised to see the same size jack in the B6 as my old B5 [which wasn't known for it's staggering strength either].

I got my B6 maybe 3" - 4" off the ground before said jack collapsed. Glad I was able to get out of the way in time.

Now I keep an OEM BMW 3 Series jack in my trunk. It's easily double the size and strength of the Audi's. Fail.

it takes a little finesse to make sure the jack is properly seated. once i've done that, i'm usually good to go. i know the jack looks flimsy and everything, but i've changed plenty of tires and never had a problem.

i just make sure i'm on level ground and i carry wheel chocks in my trunk anyways. when i'm away from home, i actually use it to jack up the car before i put jack stands on it, like a regular jack. only reason i use my hydraulic jack at home is because it's easier and i hate trying to figure out how to put the damn OEM jack back in that little holder thing.
