    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

Do you want to control/charge the ipod from the radio or do you want a very simple interface that you just control from the ipod?

    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

if you are using software 0260 (US) or 0650 (Europe) then the cheapest way to connect an iPod is to retrofit the AUX IN. Should be less than $30 and allows to connect any device with headphone jack.

    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

thanks for the input guys, i want more than just an mp3/headset style jack and i would want something that both charges and plays. depending on the price difference, i would like to be able to see the songs on my nav screen and control the ipod/iphone. but if that is significantly more expensive then i can live with a charging/playing wire where i control only from the iphone.
    thanks again

    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

I'll try to break down what we sell for your car and how it works.

    Simplest:
    Blitzsafe M-link
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...LINK1_V1B.html
This interface will connect to your ipod from the data plug and charge it. That's it. You control all of the ipod functions from the ipod itself.

    Advanced:
    Dice I-Audi-R
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s..._I_AUDI_R.html
The Dice will charge your ipod and allow you to control its functions from the radio. Your playlists will come up as different cd's and you can track up/track down the songs as well. Much better than the OEM Audi Ipod since it has no limit to playlists. Add's an auxilary in as well which can be switched through the radio.

    Top Tier
    Dension GW16AC1/AC2 Gateway 100
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...N_GW16AC1.html
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...N_GW16AC2.html
This allows you to have text on the MFD in your center console. FULL control over the ipod's functions in IPOD-GW mode and can switch over to IPOD-UI mode through the menu screen. It includes a full ABC-Search for all artists and songs. Learning curve is a little steep but after a few weeks you will be able to navigate through your ipod very quickly through the steering wheel controls. This also has an aux-in that you can access from the menu screen.

    Dension GW33AC1/AC2 Gateway 300
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...N_GW33AC1.html
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...N_GW33AC2.html
This has the same functions as the Gateway 100's just with the addition of a USB-in for portable hard drives and thumbdrives. Again it has full text for that as well.

Yes they will. The Dension needs to be in Ipod UI mode(control from Ipod) to get the audio from Pandora. Otherwise works fine.

    Questions about the GW16AC2:

-Does it work with an iPhone 3GS?
-Does it include a dock cable?
    -Will it charge a 3GS

Thanks in advance, if everything is confirmed I'll be pulling the trigger :)

I'm just wondering... I ran across this post a couple days back doing the research for exactly this option.

    http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2760704

Will the BlitzSafe VW/M-LINK1 V.3A work the same as the BlitzSafe AUDI/M-LINK1 V.1B? It just seems that the v.3a is simpler to connect (one cable vs. 3?)

    Any information would be appreciated.

If you have the external cd changer in your glovebox(which came on RNS-E equipped cars) then you can use the V3a.

    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

my local installer is quoting me the best price for the USA Spec device. After reading this thread, I want to go with the Dension option. Is the Dension better than USA Spec, or do they do the same thing?

    i want
    - control via my steering wheel control
    - charges my ipod
    - track title display on both the unit itself AND the dash display.

Will the USA Spec get the job done, or should I fork out more for the Dension?

    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

The USA-Spec is a great unit and will give you control of your playlists and track up/down, but will NOT give you text at all. The Dension will give you the text and better control of the Ipod. You cant go wrong with either unit its just a matter of how much control you want with your Ipod.

    Re: simplest ipod/iphone connection

    A little help please,

I've read through a lot of post about iPod integration, but still a bit confused.

I have an early ’05 Audi S4 with a symphony radio. It’s the one with the 6 disc CD built in, a cassette, and satellite. I like the Dice Electronics i-Audi-R/5V that is listed on the Enfig.com site. I do not need, or want, the satellite radio to work, so I’m not sure if I need the extra cable they sell or not?

So, it looks to me, that all I need is the:

    Dice Electronics i-Audi-R/5V

and the keys (42nd Draft Designs 42-002)

Is there is anything else required?

One last question. Is there a security feature in my radio that will shut it down once I unplug it? I bought the car used, so I have no security code to get it working again if necessary.

    Thanks for your help,
    Robbie

Will the blitzsafe work with the iPhone 3gs? I drive a 04 A4 and the headunit says "Audi Concert" on it; which blitzsafe do I need. Also, how do you get the head unit out? I couldn't find a how-to thread.

Will the Dice I-Audi-R work with the latest video Nano 16gb? Can you use the 1/8" stereo jack for a sirius plug and play, have an ipod plugged in and switch from one to the other? I would love to get rid of my cassette adapter.

    Hi Mike,
Wondering what the product landscape currently looks like. I have a B7 S4 Avant with the MMI/6CD system. My GF has over 13k MP3s which I can help myself to.

    Needs:
    1. Ability to play either my iPhone or a cheap iPod (which I can just permanently keep in the car)
    2. Ability to see text on the MMI (don't care if it's on the iPod/iPhone as that'll be tucked away in the dash most likely)
    3. Ability to charge the iPod/iPhone

Wants (it'd be nice but don't care to spend extra for it)
    1. Ability to store the iPod/iPhone in the arm rest
    2. Be nice to have satellite connected still, but with that many tunes I can easily live without it
    3. Be nice to have the 6CD connected, but can live without it if a less expensive option exists

What have ya' got for me? Also, am I missing any key questions to ask you?

I live in Philly, but have family in North Jersey.

    Thanks :)

If you don't care about losing satellite then yes all you need is the keys and interface. As long as you dont disconnect the main power harness it wont lose power and require a code. The dice only disconnects the external audio source plug (the red one).

Yes it supports the Iphone 3gs including charging. You would need the Blitzsafe Audi Mlink1 V1b http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...LINK1_V1B.html

Yes it will work with the new Nano including the charging. If you want to switch between aux and ipod you go to CD6 Track 1 (Ipod) CD6 Track 2 (Aux)

When you say MMI do you mean RNS-E navigation? As of right now there is nothing that will retain your external cd changer if you do, but if you have a Symphony in the internal changer will be retained. Like many others I would recommend the Dension for your car as it will do the charging, play, and control your Ipod. You can run the Ipod cable up to the armrest if you like.

Any other future questions concerning the Ipod kits we sell and compatibility I would take a look at the awesome blog posts Christian wrote up http://enfig.wordpress.com/

Per your last reply, is that correct that if I have the Audi Symphony double din unit and choose the Dension unit for Iphone adapter that I will be able to still use the internal CD changer?

Bumping just to say thanks for this great writeup. I was seriously confused about my different options. I just bought a 2008 a4 that I believe has the upgraded speaker system and has an ipod connector already installed in the glove box but the navigation is terrible to the point of unuseable. I think I am going to get the ipod/aux connector and get a cheap ipod to leave in the glovebox. I would get the spec.dock but it appears to get in the way of climate controls and look cluttered (IMO).

    Again, thanks!

You Probably already found it but the blitzsafe aux does just that. You also need the RCA cable.

It is compatible with the Apple-branded adapter. From Enfig's description: iPhone5: Requires the Apple lightning to 30 pin converter.
You can get the adapter for $25 on Amazon. Unfortunately, Dension doesn't have an Apple Lightning cable.
